Be Brave Little Penguin: Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees

Really love this book, hadn’t heard of it before so didn’t order right away but bought for my son’s second birthday and so glad I did! We both love it! Beautifully illustrated and a really lovely story. Highly recommend!

My little girl loves this book, all about being brave. Choose to read this most nights. Some may find the writing offensive as it say about being fat/skinny.

An excellent book!

We got this book as we loved reading 'Giraffes can't Dance' by the same author and illustrator with our son. This story follows a similar narrative, in that the protagonist is, more gently here than GCD, spurned by thier peers, as they are afraid of the water. Before facing thier fears and overcoming. Notable to me here, it is the mother penguin whom aids the child to water, while the father penguin comes out with a bit of a dig at the child, never to be seen again in the book. Probably quite a real to life portrayal of parenting in humanity, but I belive penguins are actually quite a bit more progressive in thier gender roles with Mum and Dad penguin sharing many of the what and may be considered among humans as mothering roles. Gosh, this is turning into a bit of a thing. These books are actually quite thought provoking, well done Giles.

The award winning team who brought us the modern day classic Giraffes Can't Dance are back with a new tale which has the potential to be just as successful, in my opinion. The story follows the same familiar formula as Giraffes Can't Dance. Little Pip Pip, the baby penguin, has a fear of water. Just like Gerald the giraffe, he eventually has to face up to his fear and discovers that it's not so bad after all. The illustrations are bright and inviting and the plot sweet and charming. Five stars from us.

This book is perfect for the more cautious kids out there that need to learn to be a bit more daring.
