Seems to work well, but I think the baseplate could be a little bigger since it is round off at the end. That way you could make longer measurements for distance on the map.

Made in Finland, (not China), this compass is well built of quality material. The markings are clear and legible. The needle is accurate to orientation. I recommend buying this compass.

This is a good durable beginner at orienteering. It has all the fundamentals you need for an orienteering adventure. It’ll fulfill all the scout advancement and orienteering merit badge requirements

Despite cellphones and GPS, I don't go into the woods without a trail map and compass. Suunto makes simple quality compasses; and unless I'm orienteering that's all I need. This is a replacement for my old one that lasted 30 years or so.

You will see that the quality of this compass is on the far end. For me ill rather pay a bit more for a durable product.
