Read, Laugh, and LOVE this book!
I loved this story of a feisty, carefree, heroine and prudent, rule-following hero! I laughed so hard, so many times; it was so refreshing every time May's common sense clashed with "proper" societal behaviors - and the Duke's reactions and thoughts about her - especially when he first heard her play her instrument! You'll love this light-hearted, fast paced story of a proper English Duke who just simply cannot understand why he's falling for a lady who is the exact opposite of the "biddable" proper wife he is seeking to be his Duchess. I loved how Erin brought out a whole other side of him at his estate; it brought a lot of depth to a character who seemed one-dimensional and even a bit cold. And the ending! What a perfect gesture WIlliam made to show May how much he loved her, despite inadvertently contributing to the ending of her prior way of life. I will revisit this book again and again; loved the descriptions of Bath and William's estate. It was so easy to get lost in the story!

A nice novel from Erin Knightly
Mei-Li Bradford is different from the average English Miss or Ladies. She has spent her entire life up to this point traveling on ships and living in foreign countries with her parents while her father deals in the fabric trade and export. When Mai-Li meets the Duke of Radcliffe sparks fly and tempers flare. I really liked this novel - it tugged at my heart that Mei-Li was stuck in England and a different culture than she was used to with people who didn't understand how much she missed her old life and her mother who she was still grieving for.

A jarring read
The use of language was frankly annoying. A mixture of modern idiom, shades of American deep south, and just plain wrong collocations of adjectives with nouns!! There is a mismatch between the period of the story and the way it is told. I was mislead by Goodreads, and cannot in good faith recommend this story to you.

A light-hearted, clean, enemies-to-lovers story
Erin Knightley officially has a spot on my auto-buy list. Her books are delightful, fluffy fun and it is a nice reprieve to open the pages of her books and know I am guaranteed a sweet romance and not an obsession with lust (aka how often a hero happens to get an erection when around the heroine...I swear, for some authors, I think many of the heroes have a medical condition!)Anyways, this story is a classic enemies to lovers story, with the hero being stuffy and proper and the heroine being free-spirited, world traveled, and opinionated as hell. In many ways, this story had a flavor of Pride and Prejudice. These characters were helplessly drawn to each other in ways they couldn't understand. Their lives were so different, the Duke is tied to everything English, and May's heart resists England in favor of the sea faring life she used to have with her tradesman father. There were times when I wondered how the two would ever find common ground. Just like Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, May and William drew premature conclusions about each other and slowly discovered new things that made them realized perhaps they were wrong. There are several romantic scenes and I thought that William, though stubborn, was honorable and likeable. May was more difficult to like because of her pride and unwillingness to change her mind, but I think her loyal nature and unpredictability are exactly what the Duke needed. Despite the antagonistic beginning, I do believe they would be happy together. The secondary characters are delightful and include William's young stepsiblings, May's friends Sophie and Charity, and William's old friend Dering (who is the hero of the last book in this series).Overall, this was a pleasant read and some of the cursing and name-calling in it made me smile.

Opposites Attract - Eventually
What happens when a stuffy, overly disciplined Duke meets a free spirited miss? They fall in love of course. But, not before they go through their share of misunderstandings and confusion. William, the Duke of Radcliffe tries to lead an upright, non-scandalous life. May Bedford, grew up overseas and is used to doing what she wants without much conrtol over her actions. it's a case of opposites drive each other crazy before finally attracting. This book is another great adventure by the author. The characters are well written and well rounded. As we get to know William and May better we see that they are not the one dimensional characters that they could have been but have both good and weak points to their personalities.
