Punchy Midrange, But Needs Proper Setup
Pros: Highly dynamic, detailed midrange at high SPL Robust 30 oz ferrite magnet + 1.5″ CCAW voice coil Excellent efficiency (92–95 dB) for loud output with less power Handles 250 W RMS without overheating or distortion Cons: No output below ~90 Hz—requires a dedicated subwoofer Cloth surround demands precise mounting to avoid leaks Best for competitive multi-way systems; casual listeners may prefer flatter drivers Overall, the DS18 PRO-X6.4M is a standout choice for enthusiasts building high-output, multi-way car audio systems. In the right setup, its punchy midrange and rock-solid build deliver performance that’s hard to match—just be prepared to give it the dedicated crossover, midbass, and subwoofer it deserves.

This thing is super clear and stupid loud. I bought it to replace an Audio Legion bullet style 6.5. I really liked that this DS18 has a much higher frequency range than the 6k the Legion had. I will say the Audio Legion with its bullet tweeter is a little more clear and focused in certain frequencies, but in terms of overall sound and power handling, this thing has it whooped by a considerable margin. They do make this with a bullet tweeter also, so if you want that type of focused awsomeness, buy that one. The Audio Legion only topped at 100 watts and had great sound and I wanted to see just how accurate that was since I have an extra pair laying around. Fyi, Audio Legion was under-rated for sure. This DS18 PRO is in a whole different game entirely though!! Loud is an understatement. I have it crossed over at 140hz and 12db down paired with some Alpine-S 6.5 and a couple Focal 6.5 along with a bunch of other stuff and this fills in PERFECTLY!! Make sure you tune it properly off your amp and DSP if you have one, otherwise it may overpower your other speakers. Or, just replace them all with these and really piss off your eardrums. Buy this style for the frequency range or get the bullet style for the focused clarity. Either way, you win. Oh, be careful on your mounting depth because these aint no chinsy speaker and need some room behind your panels.

These speakers totally out performs my Jvc cs-j620 which is rated for 50 watt rms and 300 watt max. I was running all 4 doors with the jvc. First thing i noticed was the magnet size which was 3 times bigger plus at 4 pounds i kind of new it would be better. I never expected the ds-18 to be so much more. Im only running them off my deck which is around 50 watts a channel. They are so much more clearer and highs are crisp. So i put them on my rear doors and now the sound is unbalanced. You can literally hear all the sound from the back speakers. Looks like I will be changing my front speakers as well but by doing this I know I'll have to upgrade my sub which is only a 12" running off a 200 watt rms amp.
