Q: Hi, Are the spindles tapered? We have found some others that are so wondered if that may stop them cracking

Hi, the spindles are not tapered on the one's that I purchased. The grove is to secure the screw when tightened. I hope this info helps. TOL

The question is not too clear, but from the picture the square metal spindle goes through the door and the ceramic handle has a pre cut square hole. You got the handle over the hole and on the underside of the handle is a small round hole where the screw goes, there are several pre drilled holes in the spindle for the screw to be tightened into... or the square spindle has a split in it for the screw to be tightened into. Hope hat helps , get back if not and will try to explain in another way. Good product for price

I think it is the large size.The screw bolt supplied to hold the door knob to the spindle is the wrong size and falls out

Yes I think that you could buy them separately in some hardware somewhere.
