From Chinese history, ways of Healing body and Calming mind, Deeply - but Nicely explained*
A HUGELY RESPECTED man in Native American ,Chinese and other communities, this authors LONG life in the Chinese medical system "Qigong" , is SO apparent in this excellent volume, which brings ALL you need in order to grasp the world of this - Great Hope for the future -medical system . Everywhere, but especially where Health systems are being overwhelmed by costs And massive increases in mental health fragility , there is growing need to become aware of many of the basics of Qigongs. People can be put off by philosophical terminology , but behind all that is the truth - as revealed in modern science - that our reality , and so our health, is really made up of Energies (vibrations) which are much more responsive to SELF-CONTROLLED mind and body practices, than a hospital full of pills and exhausted doctors. This isn't wacky anymore : my NHS Physiotherapy Doctors are all about the MIND FIRST, and only then, the body... and Tai Chi ( the Movements part of Qigong) is more effective than standard NHS physiotherapy because Tai Chi (and other Qigong disciplines) work on your body And your mind And your Spirit - at the same time, because - only treating them TOGETHER, REALLY WORKS. Kenneth Cohen REALLY gets this, and helps to make the deep stuff Normal for us Ordinary people. Ignore the deeper bits and the history bits of this book if you like, and just get a new way of improving your health AND your ability to COPE with this Life of ours ,which seems to keep getting harder*****

Love this book
Very impressed with this book, particularly as Kenneth Cohen teaches the "classical system" as referred to in histories of qigong in the Chinese language. There are many other types of Qigong around and its hard to know where to start. About 3 weeks ago I started to learn the eight brocades, the facial qigong which is wonderful, and the whole body qi massage. I already feel a difference in my well-being and qi levels which is extremely encouraging. Am hoping to master the bone marrow cleansing exercises soon as these are very important. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to find out more about qigong, other than just exercising. I like to know the benefit of each exercise. This will be a 'working' book for me until I have mastered everything in it, so I have a real understanding about all aspects of qigong. Am happily recommending this book to my friends. Thank you Kenneth Cohen.

easy to read; supports what you've read before; adds enormously what you didn't know, beautifully.
Simplifies other writings where they have been dificult to take in; adds to,confirms and brings to light one's own previous ponderings; gives many new things and ways to follow; has enhanced my understandings in many aspects of chi kung practice; goes much further in some things than I have read before: contains lots of new mysterious fields to study.

Wonderful book for anyone!
This was the first book I purchased on qigong about 20 months ago and it changed my life! It is wonderful. There is so much information on the history and theory of qigong. Ken Cohen writes beautifully, clearly and humorously and I feel that this book has set me off on a lifetime's qigong journey! Ken does a brilliant job of covering this vast area and when I finally found a qigong teacher and told her that I'd been reading this book, she exclaimed "That's one of the best!" I continue to refer to this book on a regular basis and it has never let me down. Thank you Ken! You have achieved much with this book and it must have helped many people on the path of qigong! Thoroughly recommended to anyone who is interested in qigong or indeed anyone! I would imagine this book would benefit anyone that read it!

Great addition
Easily approachable, with pictures elaborating the techniques. Has a section dealing with beginner mistakes, how to recognize them etc., which is useful and really a must-have for beginners who go without a teacher. And the scientific section and the author's neutral but encouraging take on qigong should make the subject more approachable to beginners.I don't think the techniques section here is the best you can get from books, Bruce Frantzis covers that better in some of his works. But even if you already have Bruce's books, Ken's book can be of real help and support in finding the proper postures for you. In my opinion you should have both Ken's and Bruce's books even if you have a teacher, so you can check from them that what your teacher gives you is real. Unless you have a more reputable teacher of course.

A very useful book...
My Tai ji teacher lent me a copy of this book a few weeks ago. I quickly realised that it was one I needed! Kenneth Cohen is precise, detailed, authoritative and clear. He is also amusing and anecdotal. This book is a really useful resource for deepening the practice of qi gong. You still have to practise it, preferably with a teacher to point you in the right direction. But this book gives you the background, and lots of useful tips and building blocks so that you get the most out of your practise.I shall be going back to it for advice for years to come.

Qi Gong!!!!!!! Yeh!
I first discovered Qi Gong on youtube a couple of months ago, so I did some research, and this book repeatedly crept on to my radar. So I ordered it after reading some good reviews and I can honestly say that those reviews were thoroughly justified. This book is a complete reference to Qi Gong and includes exercises, as well as breathing exercises, and explanations of all these things, as well as many other health associated aspects to this wonderful form of exercise and, dare I say it, stresss control too. If you have any interest at all in this subject then I can thoroughly recommend this book.
