Solid scanning hardware and hooks up fast
Great product and price is solid especially with the amount of information it gets. For a phone app scanner the amount of information is fantastic, fast connection and have yet to have a drop out. has graphing available for live data, have been able to read codes on every single module i have looked at so far. led indicators on dongle are nice as shows i am powered and communicating. looking for solid scanner with a not so huge pricepoint check this out, im a technician and it impressed me with how much data you can access.

Operates exactly as intended, highly recommended
I am a back yard mechanic and I am always looking for cheaper alternatives to some of the more expensive tools. The elm device is definitely a "cheaper alternative". Don't let the price fool you tho this topdon device is awesome. Topdon has their own software which is a little confusing because of my limited knowledge but also very useful once you figure it out. I would say this the best wireless OBD scanners out their. It functions exactly how it's advertised and would recommend to any do-it yourselfers, backyard mechanics or anyone that wants a cheap way to check their engine codes.

Still getting to know this tool...
I spent some time researching many options for a new OBD2 scanner. I decided on the TOPDON TopScan as well as an Innova 5610. I have a much older Innova scanner which still works but only scans ECM and ABS modules (for some Makes/Models). I needed data from the TCM on a 2018 GMC Yukon XL. I first tried the scan with the Innova 5610 which performed the full scan in mere moments. Among the 20+ DTCs that were detected, two were of interest: a P2723 from the TCM (solenoid valve 5 stuck off) and a P0700 from the ECM (TCM requested MIL illumination). I should have immediately compared the TopScan here, but unfortunately I first cleared the DTCs with the Innova. Then I plugged in the TopScan and performed a full module scan. It took longer to go through its full scan than the Innova. But it could read the VIN automatically and identify the exact vehicle (make/model/trim) it was plugged into. It only detected 13 DTCs, since some were already cleared by the Innova. But the ones still detected by the TopScan were identical to what the Innova had found.I'm still getting used to the interface of the TopGuru app (iPhone). The scans can be saved to reports on your phone which can be pulled up later to review. There are Technical Service Bulletins and there is a "DTC Repair Guide" which gives you a summary list of top-ranked and frequently-reported fixes. A repair guide is not available for every code. (I suppose that's true because some of these are unique to the manufacturer.) The Repair Steps, at least for the P2723 code, were short but arranged in order of easiest/cheapest fix to costliest/most-time-consuming. I can't confirm that this ordering is consistent for every DTC fix, but it seems to be for other random codes tested: P0130, P0700. If so, this is a nice, quick reference and guide. There is much more to the TopScan than I've used so far. I've not viewed Live Data streams, yet, nor have I used any of the bi-directional tests--common in modern higher end scanners. The AutoVIN scan was convenient on my 2018 and 2014 vehicles, though it did not work on my older 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. (Tech Support was kind enough to inform me that TOPDON products support vehicles as early as 2001 with ODB2 certifications. My vehicle probably does not have this.)My version currently is the TopScan Lite. But I intend to upgrade to the Pro license to perform a TMPS Reset on my Yukon. Even my new, more expensive Innova 5610 can't do this.Overall, it might not be as fast as other handheld scanners. But it still does the job nicely, has quite a lot of features (full ODB2 module scanning, reports, bi-directional tests, live streams), and costs much less than other scanners that do the same thing. Besides that, you can leave it plugged in permanently if you want.
