All Around Man – Live In London

The Last Hoorah?
Rory was, and remains to this day, one of my favourite blues guitarists, and my collection of recorded works has today been extended by another live set, recorded over two days at the Town & Country Club in 1990....and how it rocks!Containing several cuts which had not appeared on previously released live sets, this is one helluva blistering performance by Rory, in the latter stages of his career, and his rock steady supporting band, running between Gallagher originals and cuts from Rory's favoured blues greats. And all the while, the dexterity of the man is very much to the fore, squeezing notes out of that battered Strat of his through his miniscule Vox AC30......and pretty much not a pedal in sight, with Rory getting all of his intonations through his fingers whether playing straight electric, slide or acoustic... a genuine, hard working musician who cared so much for his music and his audiences in equal measure! And all so beautifully recorded too! From the opening chords of Continental Op, you just know that you are in for a wild ride...even the "traditional" "solo" spot wherein Rory takes centre stage for a couple of acoustic numbers, that pace remains and, as the sleeve notes so eloquently put it; Rory "seemed to perform every number, including the opening one, as if it were the last one of the evening - sometimes even as if it might be the last one he would ever play" .....no truer word could apply as we run all the way to the closing All Around Man, simply giving us almost 109 minutes of musical magic. If you are new to the music of Rory Gallagher, then this is not a bad place to start your journey....but for his fans, this really is a must for the collection!Buy and play loud in the memory of a man taken far too early!

Rory, nearly 30 years on and still the best
Fabulous recording of the great man and his band ( Gerry, Brendan, Geraint Watkins on keys and the lad from 9 below Zero on mouth organ). Rory is still unmatched for guitar wizardry, he could do it all. Much missed and still loved
