China, where EVERYTHING is made, even Makita tools are no longer made in Japan. China has modern machinery and cheap labor, so quality tools CAN be made. In the 1950's, "made in Japan" meant very low quality, but eventually came to mean just the opposite. Now they have to outsource to China just like Europe and the U.S. We live in a global economy, get used to it. Oh, and the meaning of mass production is to make many many copies, no matter the country of origin.

Q: what does this saw weigh

Using a digital scale it weighs 13.03 lbs with oil, cord, and Diablo 24 tooth blade.

Q: Is there a lot of kickback when you first engage it?

Amber, You shouldn't have any "kickback" if the blade is not engaged when you pull the trigger. The saw does have a lot of torque and it will jerk a little when you operate it. Good technique is your best friend. Make sure that the saw is sitting on a solid surface and that the blade is not touching anything when you pull the trigger.

Q: I read a user's review that stated this saw has a three-pronged twist-lock power connector. Is this true? Can't find any other reference to this.

To the OP, great idea just don't ever take it to a jobsite where an OSHA inspection may take place. Unless you are a qualified repairer, the tool is no longer NRTL certified. Current willful violation fines are in the $135,000.00 range. I'm thinking about buying one of these and will definitely use your idea. My current circular saw has a 10' replacement cord on it, and it's frequently just too short.

Surprise Surprise! incredible little saw

I have a Dewalt 570 but I need a battery so I purchase this Skil because I have few tools with battery, OMG I incredible saw, fast nice to drive it, the place for the guide better than the Dewalt, the way to move to angle better than Dewalt, that saw will be my favorite from now on, Thank you Skil for that great tool!
