I do not have a hub. I use the Sonoff directly connected to my WiFi router. It does need the Sonoff application on my iPhone to get the WiFI password and device name set. It also works with Alexa. After I had the Sonoff connected to the app on my iPhone, I then added it to Alexa.

It is safe to use for 120V x 10A x 80% = 960W for a continuous load. Don't use it on motors, appliances or other heavy loads where the starting amps may exceed 10A. It is not UL Listed, so an electrical inspector would not approve it during construction. It is more for DIY projects.
