Speed Racer is an 18-year-old boy who dreams of driving his car, the incredible Mach 5, in professional races around the world. When the going gets tough and meddling crooks keep him from the finish line, he always finds a way to make it through. Join Trixie, Pops, Spritle, Chim Chim, and the whole gang as they root for Speed in the most nail-biting, death-defying races in history! Review: A big creepy head full of discs, but you need to get it so you can watch Mach GoGoGo! - I love this set just because it has Mach GoGoGo in Japanese with subtitles. It's literally the reason I got the set, and it is the best way to watch the series! And in case you don't know this, this set is the only way to easily, legally, reliably get Mach GoGoGo in Japanese with English subtitles in Blu-ray format as a member of the US audience. For that reason alone, I rate this 5 stars. I do have to say this is NOT a perfect set by any means. My wife hates the creepy Speed Racer head--it would have been so much cooler if it looked like it was just Speed's helmet on a stand. It would have been beautiful to display on a shelf if it looked like his racing helmet. Instead, it looks like you've beheaded Speed, taxidermied him, and you've decided to keep his head on your shelf with his creepy, unfocused eyes watching you. My wife makes me display it inside a cabinet with his head turned around, facing the wall, and I do not blame her at all. The discs are all stored in cardstock sleeves, which does cause damage to the discs if you aren't excessively careful like me. The set is kind of ridiculous on the whole--it comes with 5 sets of discs within it, and 2 of the sets are basically useless to the average person. (1) Speed Racer, English, on DVD, (2) on Blu-Ray, (3) Mach GoGoGo, Japanese, on DVD, (4) on Blu-Ray, (5) Mach GoGoGo Restart '97, Japanese, on DVD. I really didn't need to have two redundant set of DVDs when the Blu-Rays were included. Also, this was the only way (as a person in the US) to get Mach GoGoGo Restart from 1997 on discs, and it's kind of strange that the 1967 series could be put on Blu-Ray, but not the 1997 series. But, this is just how it was done, and that's why all the fans in the US need to get this giant head and redundant discs in order to obtain Mach GoGoGo and Mach GoGoGo Restart in Japanese with English subtitles. The set also makes some sound effects which are somewhat fun, comes with an extremely high quality keychain that works better as a Christmas ornament, and supposedly one of the 5 sets of discs has an interview with the English voice actress of Trixie on it. If I was wanting to create the perfect Speed Racer box set, I would have done it this way: A beautiful helmet on a stand; something that looks like Speed's helmet, but classy. You flip up the clear face shield and inside the helmet (on the front side) you could access the discs. The discs would be Blu-Ray format only and be Speed Racer, Mach GoGoGo, and Mach GoGoGo Restart. There'd be an artbook full of settei (character model design sheets) in a drawer on the base of the stand. That's it! Overall, I wish I didn't have to buy an expensive, big, creepy head in order to buy Mach GoGoGo and Mach GoGoGo Restart, but that's what I had to do, and I don't regret it. I love the Japanese version so much more than the English version. The stories finally make sense, and there aren't any scenes deleted. It's truly the best way to watch the series as an adult! Review: If you’re a fan, you need this. - The cost of the set is pretty hefty, and unfortunately, it’s out of print and the only way that you can own an English release of the Japanese speed racer original series from the 60s as well as the series that did not get dubbed from the 90s. The set is pretty neat definitely a collectible to put on your shelf, I got mine secondhand so it definitely had flaws but the disks were pristine. The Collectible bust, even has some lines that it will say when you push the button on the front you can also move the visor up and down and there’s a gigantic keychain for speed racer in the back drawer at the bottom. Overall in opposed to buying The Japanese DVD set for 300+ dollars and not being able to watch it on a US DVD player and the fact that it would not come with any subtitles. This is unfortunately the only way to get the full uncut unedited Japanese speed racer with the subs, it also comes with the English English version on both DVD and Blu-ray As well as both formats for the Japanese. I think that they missed a good opportunity to market the Japanese series in a standard edition set but at least I got this. This is A five out of five stars definitely a must have for any speed racer Mach go go go! Fan. I can only imagine that this is going to go through the roof as the years go on if you find a good deal, I would absolutely grab it.

You probably saw this guy on YouTube
It’s exactly what you think it is and to be honest I unironically love it. Out of all the early anime this is probably my favorite next to the original Lupin the Third show. Speed Racer is really something of a masterpiece that brilliantly captures the fun and energy of the 60’s and goes through every genre and idea it can think of week by week. The characters are iconic and seeing Speed and Racer X after all these years really shows how well they have stood the test of time. Out of context this show can be hilarious, but when you actually watch it you become so invested by the earnestness and enthusiasm the show has for itself that you’re taken for a ride every single time and you don’t let go. I don’t actually think the show has a bad episode. The Terrifying Gambler is one of my favorite episodes of the entire show, it’s the craziest and the funniest, but it’s such an entertaining idea done with such fun. It’s indicative of the entire show. If you want it have a fun time this, possibly more than any other show I’ve ever seen, is the one to turn to. This limited edition also has many extras, the Japanese dub and even other speed racer shows! Though to me the English dub of the original show is the real talk of the town here. You can find that in many places, but I turn here because I have the show twice before and want to have a piece of it that signifies my love for it. The $20 Blu ray is just as good for watching the show, but if you want a piece of it then this is where to turn to. Is that sentimental and silly of me? Yes. Is that the spirit of the show. Definitely. Go speed racer. Go speed racer. Go speed racer, go!
