Works well....but you have to get used to it...
Having to update my review now that we are about 90 days in. First, if you have a problem contact the company that shipped it to you not the company you will find online that advertises the Saberlight. The company that managed the delivery was very responsive when I had a problem and got me a new unit when the first failed. Trying to reach out by searching for Saberlight and going that route was a bad idea. Our first unit broke but was replaced. So my hope is unit #2 holds up better. Can't be too harsh as these things do happen (that's why there is a warranty) and they stand behind the warranty.A couple thoughts:Remember this creates an arc not a flame so you do have to adjust how you light a bbq when using this. There is no flame that reaches out to the paper to light it. You have to get some paper between the contact points of the head so that it is lit. You also need the paper to be thick enough so that you don't just burn a hole in the paper. Don't walk away thinking this think is hard to use- it just is different than a traditional lighter. If you press and hold it by thick enough paper (i.e. thicker than one piece of newspaper) the flame takes off pretty quickly. With a flame I would typically start the charcoal chimney by lighting in 3-4 places. With this I pick one place and focus there and that does the trick. But whereas the flame version lets you light through the holes in the chimney, here I have to lift up the chimney since there is no flame to shoot through the holes. Not a problem. Just different.

The Saberlight works great. Out of the box it charged up back ...
The Saberlight works great. Out of the box it charged up back to factory original charge in about ten minutes. I have been using it to light Surestart fire starters for my wood stove once or twice per day for more than a week on that first charge.I give The Saberlight five stars, but I give Amazon zero stars for the way they packed the product. It arrived in a box much bigger than necessary with out any padding, leaving it free to rattle around badly in the box. When I opened the box, I found that The Saberlight factory box had opened up and The Saberlight itself was loose and rattling around in the box with out the protection of its original box. I was very concerned that it might have been damaged from being so badly packaged, but it seems to have survived and is working very well. I think this is a testament to how strong The Saberlight is.The long flexible neck does make lighting candles in deep jars and glasses much easier than with a match or a Bick type lighter.

Cheap junk thanks to its plastic tip and stuck button.
The tip is plastic, which means it melts if it gets near a flame. I got this thing to light candles so that's junk. I also managed to get the button stuck. Sending this thing back, thanks Prime!

The tech is very cool but......
As much as I geek out on amazing technology I must remain objective!!!With great pain, I have ceased use of my plasma beam lighter for three reasons.Issue #1 - *possible* again *possible* unsafe flashes from the plasma beam. I find the initial contact with the wick to cause a very intense flash that seems similar to a camera flash. Due to the small beam, its hard to light a wick without also getting hit with the flash. Again, may be nothing but its uncomfortable for me.Issue #2 - Cleaning....constant cleaning. I know if I practiced, I could get the finesse down to cleanly light a candle. However, I think we all have to clean this way too often because it comes in contact with the wick. If too much gunk gets on it, beams cease working. If the beam was just 50% wider it would be a HUGE difference.Issue #3 - Battery life is decent but you have no idea when its gonna be dead. Indicators for battery life were invented, I don't know decades ago? I'm at a loss why this device can't indicate low battery. With a heavy steam powered heart, I have retired my Saberlight Flex. Back to my quad butane torch I go.

Just shy of 5-stars...
Just shy of hitting 5-stars. Product arrived quickly and looks great. Easy to charge and ignite. My only complaint is that the space between the contacts is rather narrow. This makes lighting things a little more challenging since what you want to light has to come in contact with this very small plasma stream. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase.

Impressive durability and longevity for lighting gas stove burners only
My wife and I use this to light our antique stove and propane camping stove. It gets used around 5 to 10 times a day for the last 2.5 years. The button pressure is very light in comparison to the heavy pressure required for a butane long lighter. The battery hardly ever runs dead and when it does it charges up quick with the mini USB. I personally don’t recommend plasma lighters with a plastic end piece for lighting candles or trying to light things on fire in general. I melted the tip experimenting with lighting candles and had to repair it with a epoxy. For lighting gas stoves it is definitely superior over a butane long lighter. The small hoop on the end is a critical component for us as we are hanging it on a hook. I noticed most of the plasma long lighters do not have that option. If you are manually lighting a natural or propane gas range, barbecue, or fireplace with a butane lighter and are considering a plasma lighter we definitely recommend it.

Finally a top quality lighter
I’ve purchased two other types of plasma lighters, one worked for a while then stopped the second was defective as received. I decided the adage “you get what you pay for” might pertain to this type of product. So far this seems to be a much better product with just a modest increase in cost. The flexible neck is a big improvement over the rigid type. The switch is also an improved design. Lastly, the warranty is much better. Lighters that don’t need fuel (simple recharge occasionally) and work consistently should be commonplace, turns out not not to be so. This one looks like it will be.
