Nice umbrella, over-engineer system, & steep price, but all worth it.
This umbrella has been the best based on the construction that I have seen in my entire life. All my past umbrellas felt like the construction of the bars that form the brace for the canopy are always exposed metal. You could tell right away where they wanted to cut the budget. However, this Knirps umbrella is the complete opposite. You immediately look at the construction of the metal bars and the quality is evident. It appears that they are made of a metallic material but lined or painted with a thick paint that covers the metal completely and protects it from the elements. Also, that same construction makes it even quieter when you open and close the umbrella. It's something I don't know how to describe, but you can feel and distinguish the quality. It is German engineering to the hilt. The canopy fabric is soft almost like a sheet, yet it is still very much waterproof. Unlike the cheap umbrellas that feel like a piece of nylon or plastic covering used in the canopy construction. This umbrella is small which is a trade-off if you were looking for something compact to put in your luggage or backpack. However, this could also be the CON for this umbrella as some people prefer to have larger umbrellas that cover a larger footprint. I think is a trade-off you have to make and not the fault of the construction of this product. Is nice to see them include a carrying case but it could be a pain placing the umbrella back inside it as it gets caught in the zipper seam easily. I'm very pleased with this umbrella and feel like this will be my umbrella for the rest of my life. I take care of my things and I feel like this one is one of those things that could easily surpass me in age. The price is steep for an umbrella, but the quality is there.

Knirps is a brand you can trust
Over the years of business and personal travel I have always wanted to have an umbrella handy (except winter in parts of Canada, New England and the Midwest). I suffered many failed umbrellas through travel and realized an umbrella always needed a space in a car, a backpack, briefcase or tech tote. I saw this mini manual Knirps and knew it was perfect for a new backpack, or a twenty plus year old leather backpack that shouldn’t get wet. I love this. It’s a one person canopy for sure. It opens and closes with minimum effort. And of course it’s from the umbrella expert at Knirps. Good value given that it could last the rest of your lifetime. Highly recommended

Simply the Best Umbrella - Almost
Knirps is a brand I have seen for many years but have never owned. I have, instead, opted for cheaper umbrellas. Being economical, I have learned, can come with a high price tag. My umbrellas have become useless over the years. In fact, my last compact umbrella (prior to Knirps) can no longer be opened at all. Shopping for umbrellas and replacing them often has become normalized, leading me to spend more money than I would have if I had just purchased a better umbrella in the first place. Then, of course, there is the time spent shopping as well as the disappointment experienced when I take out my trusted umbrella only to discover that it is not as trustworthy as I had anticipated. My new Knirps Compact Umbrella, I believe, will be a game changer for me. Yesterday, my new umbrella arrived sealed in a plastic bag. Today, it is raining but not windy. I can say my new umbrella has been tested on everything except wind, so I am unable to verify its claims of wind resistance. There is a loop (thick, wide ribbon as opposed to thin elastic or cord) for carrying the umbrella on my wrist, and it is easily slipped on and off. The case zips shut, allowing for the umbrella to be placed inside without struggling to fit a tight case over an umbrella that is not perfectly folded prior to being covered with its case. I am, happily, not trying to duplicate the performance of a machine on an assembly line, which is a test I always seem to fail. The fabric itself is not as heavy as my solar umbrella. It is the thickness of a normal umbrella, where the light is visible through the fabric. Opening and closing the umbrella is strictly manual but very easily and smoothly done. There is no button to press when opening the umbrella or releasing it to close. When closing the umbrella, one must be careful to push it back down into the handle completely or it will slip up the shaft by itself when turned upside down. A simple push will do, but there is no audible click. The smoothness of operation and a close examination of all of the materials reveal a well-made, quality umbrella. The one drawback, and my reason for not rating the umbrella with five stars, is that the handle is uncomfortable to hold when the umbrella is in use. I find myself holding the shaft and the handle or just the shaft. The handle is small and round and not at all ergonomically suited for balancing the open umbrella in my hand. I recommend this Knirps Compact Umbrella due to its quality construction, five-year warranty, and size. There is some sacrifice in terms of comfort when it comes to carrying a full-sized umbrella with its more ergonomically designed handle, but the tradeoff comes with the added size and weight. This is an excellent umbrella that I feel will, unlike my prior umbrellas, last for years.

Small, Sturdy, but not Automatic
This is a very small travel umbrella that is quite sturdy. It says it can handle wind speeds up to 120 km/h (more than 70 mph). The ribs feel very sturdy and have tons of flex and give in them which likely provides that high wind sturdiness. Once opened, the umbrella has reasonable coverage and protection considering its size. It is a manual open which is typical for umbrellas this size, and it does open nice and smoothly. Closing it is easy as well, there is no awkward pinching clip you need to depress, it just easily goes up and down! It is a little pricey at $50 at time of this review, but the build quality and sturdiness means it'll definitely out last less expensive alternatives.
