Hammerite Direct to Rust Metal Paint - Smooth Silver Finish 750ML

Used this Hammerite Direct to Rust paint on some metal fence railings and it worked brilliantly. The smooth black finish looks clean and professional, and it went on easily with no need for a separate primer. Coverage was solid, even on older metal, and it dried to a tough, even coat. It’s ideal for outdoor jobs, weather-resistant and designed to last. I’ve used other metal paints before, but this one really stands out for ease of use and finish quality. No flaking, no fuss, just a reliable result. If you’re tackling gates, railings, or any exposed metalwork, this is a great choice. One tin went further than expected too, which was a bonus.

Brough this for brighten up and rust prevention. Got the 750ml and just did the whole stair case. It was only one coat and although I may get another tin for giving certain areas a second coat, this is more down to the brushes used and workmanship. Dry time was pretty quick as well. A better painter with better brushes would no doubt finish the lot with one coat. 100% recommend. It's a lovey dark green and loves thick as it goes on. It does have a certain sparkle to it but it certainly makes an ugly item (such as courtyard fire stairs) look a hell of a lot better. Great value for money from this seller also

Great coverage. Done a small radiator and a couple of lengths of pipework with 2 coats, with about a third left. Tried hard to get a super smooth finish but there were some areas that cane out hammered. Not a problem and doesn't look bad, I was just aiming for a super smooth finish. Easy to wash off brushes with white spirit. Comes out quite runny but seems to thicken quite quickly, but jot to the point of being unusable. Consistently good outcome, so happy to keep buying and using

Pricey. With the right roller brush (sponge), was easy to apply. Have to be quick, dries fairly quickly. Good coverage, applied 2 coats, 12 hours apart. Tin says allow 16 hours between coats however i found that it dried half that time ( temps were 17-19 degrees celcius). Used about half a tin for 2 medium sized radiators (1 coat on one side and 2 coats on the other side). Very pleased with the finish and the coverage (3 coats on a 1600x600 radiator with paint to spare ). Very thin so be sure to prep properly (degrease and lightly sand) then apply quite thickly watching for runs. I used a paint brush on the top & bottom and a small roller for the main body of the radiator. One coat probably would have done but I wanted it to be a hard wearing as possible so applied 3 coats.

This item is purchased for a sole purpose, protecting our large swing chair frame from the outdoor elements, which is does perfectly. Our frame is out in all weathers, as it is very big and it is easier to treat with Hammerite, than taking it apart every year and assembling it the next. The proof in the pudding, is that our frame shows no signs of rust at all and it is fourteen years old now, even on the swing points where the swing chair is attached to the frame. We paint the frame every two years with the same colour paint, as Wild Thyme is a lovely colour for the frame, not too soft or too hard in colour and compliments any garden. We find that the paint goes on really well, it covers well to and goes a long way, but never use Hammerite paint on a hot day, it must be used on a cool dry day, cool and overcast is perfect, as it starts to cure quite quickly when you paint with it. On a hot day it is not possible to paint and get a perfect finish, as the frame is quite warm to start with and the air is also hot, so the paint will gloop up in these conditions and not cover and spread nicely. Used correctly, this is the perfect product for using on metal-based items that you want to protect year after year.

After my last review being not accepted, unknown reasons to me, i shall re-write the review again. I will say this is NOT a genuine Hammerite Product. After asking for the 'Hammered' paint i was sent the smooth one instead. As i was trying to finish the work i have beenn doing at home for last 2 months I decided to try this instead. I have used Hammerite products before so do know them. Upon pouring this paint out it was obvious this is not a genuine product, its so thin as if its been watered down. The label is just printed and stuck on. Plus check the pictures, it doesnt come out black when it dries but like a rustic brown. Avoid this people. I can't see why there would lbe positive reviews on this. Waste of Rs. 4,500.
