Not to be taken lightly
Written while on the road to recovery following a serious bout of depression, Lars Von Triers film seems to portray one mans fears and discomfort out in the public view.Do not watch this film if you're looking for a classic Horror movie, nor would i recommend watching this film if you 'wanna watch sum sick stuff legally'. Art-house? I think not. Pretentious? Hardly. Disturbing, uncomfortable, offensive and damn sure hard to watch? Yes.Anyone who has suffered from a panic attack, spate of paranoia or depression will probably (as did I) find this film compelling on many levels. It's quite horrific in some parts as it cuts so close to the bone that you can't help but stare and become drawn in. The trouble with Antichrist is that it falls into no specific genre and therefore upsets the general public as they don't know how to approach it. The 'tutters' (you know the type, the folk who turn their noses up at Roy Chubby Brown jokes) are, of course, having a field day with this movie because they're undoubtedly unable to sit and view this movie, take in all the horrific images and hard to deal with subjects then consciously and unaffectedly ask the question 'why?'. They find it far easier to slag the film off and pick everything they don't understand. And that, remarkably (in my opinion of course!) is the reason why this film is so good.If you can sit through this film and ask questions of it and you know of the director/writers' background of mental health issues (or have in fact been in a similar mental position yourself) then this movie can be like bathing in your own blood, you know its wrong but somehow your surrounded by a warm yet disturbing part of yourself. One of which you cannot rid yourself of, really wish it wasn't there and yet feel strangely attached to it!Watch this film, but be prepared to be shocked. Don't watch it if you don't want to see penetration, blood and violence. If you've suffered from mental health issues in the past then just take an extra bit of care as you may find yourself sat in front of a mirror....

I wanted to give 5 stars!! but lacked in places!
I had to see this film as there was so much hype about it!! Especially the scenes that shocked a nation. As a masive horror fan (this is not horror) I felt it was a bit tame in places and tried to shock, but for me it didn't. Yes you get to see a hrad on a film and a very shocking part with a woman and a paid of scissors. I cringed, but didn't feel how I thought I would!! felt the acting was good, but strange as I thought there would have been more of an outraged emotional times, but it was all quite calm. The story line was very well done and anyone that has dealt with grief would feel some of these emotions and maybe more!! It made you see all the things you might feel. but would'nt actually do. I feel everyone should watch this film, just for the braveness of the director. He knows how to push the boundaries and Dancer in the Dark still has the edge for me. Like his style and cannot wait to see how far he will go before his films are banned lolCheers Lars Von Trier!! Genius still in the making!

Antichrist [Blu-ray]
Great film in my view. I am a massive horror fan and have started to run out of good horrors to watch. It is nice to see a good american horror that is not a rip off of asian horror's. it is not dissimiliar to a good old asian horror with great suspense, director's orientation including nice projection angles and variety. i am sure ther will be plenty of negative feedback on this film as films are subjective. I think this may be a marmite film, you love it or hate it.The thing i loved the most about this film is the plot which is thick and extremely dark. not many films scare me anymore but this one i actually had to turn off for abit because it was quite disturbing in parts, probably more so if your male :-(.I really would give it a try, please ignore comments from those who don't appreciate horror films. enjoy!!!!!!

Lars von Trier comes back in force
First, I'd like to say that I am not in the least astonished that opinions about this movie are so polarized; von Trier has never played to the public and in an age like ours - where everything has to pass through idiotic focus groups & marketing gimmicks ad nauseam before any type of release - and if its purpose was to sell à la Jurassic Park and gain wide public consensus, there is no doubt in my mind that this movie would never have seen the light of day. It's not a sexy movie (but one about sexuality)... It's not a happy movie (but one about one's search for happiness)... It's not formulistic (but about one's struggle with archetypes)...Lars Von Trier truly is one of the most important artists of our time!

Disturbingly entertaining
The film was good; the images presented were delivered with art and grace. While I would not recommend this film to all I would say it was thought provoking and would recommend to those who are bored of blockbusters. The film tells of a couples' decent into torment after losing their child, to watch this film and expect some kind of gory epic with a Hollywood feel will give the viewer much disappointment. This film is not about special effects or mindless killing/mutilation but it tries to deliver a very real perspective of a minds degradation following a horrific tragedy. The film is shocking and sad and will leave you thinking about the story and reasons behind what you have just seen.I could go into describing this film in detail and provide my own explanations to what I saw but this film is best watched not knowing what to expect and allow it to penetrate your own mind and judgements.Enjoy.

Searing stuff
A haunting and powerful horror film from Danish master, Lars Von Trier. Lovers of Lars will no doubt find a lot to like in this brooding drama which features some gorgeous imagery and extraordinary performances from Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Some may find it boring, but I found it interesting and often profound. The violence is shocking and perhaps a little gratuitous, but it all serves a purpose to the film. Whatever your opinions are of Antichrist, you'll never forget it.
