Burning Wheel RPG Gold Edition

Welcome to the Dark Ages (in more ways than one)
The authors seem to only use he/him pronouns and have several "wife" lifepaths, which might make sense in some settings but could just as easily be termed as "spouse" in most cases. My gaming group is all women so we probably noticed this more than some users might.

Solid Book, even better pen and paper RPG
This review is for the book itself, not the RPG system or the content in the book. The tome is quite hefty, but still single hand usable. The binding was solid, and the pages are thicker than bible pages. The font was large enough to read at a comfortable distance as well. The cover was solid as well, and quite nice. Good addition to any bookshelf.

GREAT RPG SYSTEM
This RPG system is absolutely awesome. Playing this game has helped us RP in ways that are much more fun, and are more central to the campaign. I highly reccommend it. It’s a bit hard to learn at first, but definitely worth it!

Great game system
Be warned this system in a bit confusing, but so worth it.Pros -a clever system for medieval timesLots of paths and optionsClever character 'burning' (generation) system with lots left open to the player.System self punishes min/max'ersCons -index isn't what it should betable of contents isn't all that helpful.book layout should be bettersystem is confusing to someone who has never played. You may need someone to help guide youOverall I find it an excellent system that reward successes AND failures.

An awesome narrative-driven experience
This is an entirely narrative-driven RPG where your characters focus on building a story through play vice the dungeon-crawl/grind that a lot of other Fantasy titles. Don't get me wrong, Pathfinder, Dragon Age, and Warhammer Fantasy RPG are all good titles and do what they are trying to do exceptionally well - however - if you start wanting MORE from your games look into this title. If interested in this title, I would suggest going to YouTube and watching some of the Actual Play sessions posted there. Get a solid idea of what the game is and how it flows before making any decision based on written reviews. The only thing keeping me from listing this as a five-star title is that the rulebook is essentially a novel. It's layout isn't as smooth and accessible as I would like, and I have actually had to start skyping with some veteran players in order to understand some of the rules.

A cheap rulebook + an excellent system = great RPG
This is currently my favorite RPG mechanic. And the book is cheap. My favorite thing is probably how easily this system is adapted into just about any context

Can not be beat.
I'm new to the system and have been playing it now for about 4 weeks. I have to say when it comes to independent games I have low expectations when it comes to style. This book is the size of a novel; it is hardback and for the most part (95%) has very fitting illustrations and nice border designs. It is well organized and detailed when it needs to be by providing examples for all game concepts. All that being said it costs about half the price I would expect for the quality of content. The system itself has a lot of concepts that I can see in other rpg's: a little of the Song of Ice and Fire RPG, some Strands of Fate, Riddle of Steel(Jacob Norwood is credited and writes the forward!). Those are just a few but it has a lot for most gamers in my opinion, requires actual role playing, not number crunching, and balances players well.

Great but complex
Great system with a ton of good approaches and ideas, but it's also pretty complex and nothing you can just learn on the go.
