Neurobiology For Dummies (For Dummies Series)

I bought this book quite a few years back and its been collecting dust on my book shelf. I've finally got round to having time to read it. The reason I bought it was because I wanted to have some kind of goal in life, and have a basic background of neurobiology. Reason, so when I needed to go back to work I could join a friend of mine in the field of which they work. So, needed to start off simple and this book seemed the best idea at a starring point. How wrong was I. In the first chapter alone it just confused me even more. Very hard to understand what I was reading. I will have to find a different route :(

I purchased this book out of sheer curiosity and my interest in neuroscience. I have no medical background whatsoever and I still understood it. You will need a little bit more time, it is not an easy read, but it is 100% worth it. It gave me a solid introduction and background to move on to more advanced books on the subject. Highly recommend!

I bought this book as to understand words and concepts to help me read various research articles on the subject itself. However the major fault with it is that it provides very few diagrams and pictures for the reader to understand. It assumes too much of the reader, missing out steps to conclusions and uses big words in isolation. It needs a major overhaul in its layout, use of colour pictures and assumptions. I would not recommend this book to a 'dummy' but as a revision text for undergraduates or AS level students. I use this book in conjunction with more basic colour books of neuroanatomy for younger people. I think the book is getting away with a poor performance by using the word 'Dummies' in its title.

Good info but not necessarily for absolute beginners - you need a dictionary or google to back it up.

A great way of learning the basics, ideal if your struggling with the more difficult subjects.

As always Dummies books are value for money. Easy to understand. Also good for quick reference. I have been buying Dummies books for years, never been Disappointed.
