Better than advertised
Gifted this to my parents and was excited to get it working. Their home had horrible WiFi dead zones. I'd already upgraded their router to an ASUS WiFi6 model. When I read that it could become part of a mesh network, I jumped into gear finding them the best system for their space. Enter the ZenWiFi XD4. They opened the box and were excited that the TV would finally have a good signal. Of course, I had to install it. Worked like a charm from the jump. The unpacking and connection of the units was simple. Plug and play is NOT an exaggeration. It took me longer to decide where I wanted to place them, than it did to transfer their network to the new router. In minutes their home had internet in every nook and cranny!

Home WiFi network
We decided to purchase our own mesh wifi because our IP was charging $25/mo rental for an eero system. For less than a year’s rental cost we now have our own network hardware and our IP bill is lower. The ASUS mesh equipment was easy to set up and after a couple months we have had zero issues. Win-win!

Frustrating Setup and Unreliable Performance
The automatic setup for the ASUS ZenWiFi XD4 Plus AX1800 was extremely frustrating. One node set up fine, but adding a second node was impossible. Coverage is also questionable—even with nodes placed as recommended, more than 1 meter apart in the same room, they couldn’t discover each other. Worst of all, after wasting two hours on the setup, the system failed to recognize the DHCP from my cable modem, leaving me without an internet connection. To make matters worse, I couldn’t update the firmware, as it kept displaying the unhelpful message: “Something went wrong, try again.” A thoroughly disappointing experience.

Used One from Amazon Works
When I selected this sencond-to-laterest generation mesh router, there's options to buy used One from Amazon Warehouse. More than $50 discount. I thought that's what people returned from Amazon for some reasons, but I don't think that would be the hardware problem. Last night, I got the product, and installed successfully. Here is the after-installation thoughts.1, Rest before go on installation. You better power on 3 pieces, push and hold reset button for at least 10 seconds, seeing the LED color changes.2, After installed the designated router one by utilizing the app, to use Chrome to access 192.168.xx.xxx, in order to connect the nodes. And importantly, be patient, give system at least 10 minutes to sort out.3, If missing nodes in your app, reset the node cube by press-and-hold for at least 10 seconds. Then repeat step 2 as mentioned, see the app for results.Overall, even the used One from Amazon Warehouse works fine, no problem.

Keeps disconnecting from the router
Disappointed. Bought, thinking my house isn’t that big (1700sq ft), range shouldn’t be an issue. Started having issues as soon as I set it up. One node seems to be defective, keeps reconnecting to the router all the time and goes offline. Also, by default, all my devices connected to the main router and stay connected to it instead of being shuffled to the nearest point. Useless system. Returning.

a very happy customer
Granted, the set up wasn't as easy as expected, and I am computer savy. But the performance is solid in a two story cement house about 2,500 square feet. The admin panel is very thorough and provides great options for set up. I totally recommended, but follow instructions to the letter during set up and be patient.

Mediocre performance
Easy to connect but the app is slow and unresponsive. Signal strength is average but for the price I would recommend buying Tenda. I have a mesh system of Tenda and it works way better than Asus, even the app is more stable and user friendly
