From Eternity to Here: The Quest for the Ultimate Theory of Time
S**)
Essential reading for time travellers. Built like a Bradshaw's Guide; Michael Portillo will love it.
A very detailed discussion of the nature and origins of time. Hugely complex thought experiments that come ten-to-the-dozen. A book that will have to be read at least three times. Fortunately it is well written, although there are diagrams that aren't clearly understood. Works well with the two primers:1) The Quantum Universe: Everything that can happen does happen.2) Quantum: A guide for the perplexed. There are no significant mathematical hurdles to navigate (unlike field theory) but if you fatigue with the thought experiments and logic, Sean Carroll has a lovely dry sense of humour that rescues the situation. It isn't a read anywhere book. Although available in my Public Library, it needs a quiet reading room. It induces narcolepsy. Enjoy!

Thought provoking worthwhile read
The book covers many aspects relating to the arrow of time and cosmology. It is thorough and impartial. It can be long winded with some ideas repeated several times. The focus is on entropy. Some extra discussion on how increasing entropy causes the arrow of time in biological processes, human consciousness and memory would be useful, as this is stated without explanation.

You should read this guy
I don't normally review books but i feel compelled to do so here... to be fair, this is more to give props to the author than anything that's necessarily related to the book. I've never read anything by this guy before and I actually bought the author's new book the Big Picture before this book, but my impression is that that book expands on that which is to be found in this book, so i thought it best to put that one down and read this one first.Anyway whatever, why does this book get 5 stars? Simple; it's not a short book and he says different and more stuff than is normally found in popular physics books. To not have to again wade through 100 pages of relativity and that damn double slit experiment before i get to what i bought the book to read is refreshing, to say the least! The author actually acknowledges this at some place in the book, too, which was nice. He goes deep (non-mathematically and compared to other popular physics books), into the reasoning behind what these guys are doing and why. Looking at my shelf there is nothing that compares to this guy's books (The Big Picture isn't short, either), save for maybe the World Treasury of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics. Although, granted, there's only about 50 physics books on my self so i'm not exactly learned, but still, i'm impressed! And will be reading all of this guys books before i'm done (including the one's i didn't consider because i've heard and read about the topics elsewhere), as this guy will say stuff on those topics that i haven't heard before, i'm sure of it.As to the legitimacy of the arguments? I haven't got a clue. I'm not a physicist and i don't understand the mathematics behind it all so, basically, i cannot legitimately argue. But it's deep (based on my experience of other books), and it's fascinating. In short, if you've read a bunch of physics books and are still looking for something more, i feel confident in recommending that you move this guy to the top of your list!ps. maybe i should have posted this in review of his new book for exposure, but i haven't read that book yet and didn't want to hold off on writing this.

brilliantly written!
Reading this book is not a waste of your time! ;)A great read, and hard to put down. Some of the concepts are a little mind-bending, and take a lot of thought to get your head round (what else would you expect from a book that tackles such a subject?) but it's fascinating to follow the journey the author takes you on.If you are interested in this book, you should already be beyond the stage of needing to see reviews about it - its a must read!!

From Eternity to Here: by Sean Carroll - Size of the book a pain to hold with one hand,
From Eternity to Here: The Quest for the Ultimate Theory of TimeTrying to read this book, as I researching on the subject 'Time', unforutunates this extraordinarily large size of the book makes reading a pain holding wiht one hand; shall still try to read it. Or I may have buy it in ebook format.I wonder, since it is not a reference book, why the publisher would print it such large page size?A Dhanjal

About time and where it comes from.
I, like many, am fascinated by advanced physics and the story of the universe we live in but I am not a physicist and don't do maths. This book is by Sean Carroll who is an engaging speaker (I saw him on YouTube giving a Royal Institution lecture which is why I bought the book) is equally adept as a writer and communicator of deep physics concepts. It all makes perfect sense as one reads through the chapters and he makes clear distinction between experimentally provable facts and speculation on what may, or may not, be the reality of the universe. Having read the book I don't think I could explain its contents to anyone but that is my failing not the author's! Enjoyable ride through fascinating subject suitable for the general reader with only one equation (and that you can fit on a T-shirt).

Excellent read
Not for the beginner as it is written at a fairly high level. For me it is perfect and one of the best I have read in a while. This was my second book from this author and both were exceptional.

In search of lost time... And entropy !
A thrilling excursion to some of the most fascinating -- though yet unsolved -- issues in modern physics and cosmology, already hinted at in Kant's antinomies, among others...The road to full understanding of those perplexing themes is still long and difficult, but Carroll's maestria, enthusiasm and optimism constantly drive the reader towards hope, all along. So, embark safely !

Font waaay to small
Book itself OK, but the font - I have a perfect sight, tested this year, this is insane. I need a loop. Its basically unreadable for me. Photo attached is appendix part (really relevant) bit the main font is not much bigger. For what, for 10 pages more if font increases?

A good book for those who wants to understand what is time
This book is a great start if you are trying to understand the cosmology of time. I must agree that one read is not enough to understand the concepts discussed in this book. However, the author is successful in explaining rather complicated scientific concepts in layman's terms.
