The ONLY long term and reliable media type!
These are not regular discs.. there are archival grade discs. The ONLY long term archive media! Tested it under extreme condition - works perfectly. Again, this is the only way to protect your data forever. Hard drives (HDD and SSD), tapes or any other media are effected by depolarisation, magnetic field, bitrot and others who can one day fail you without early notice. I learnt about M-Disc after I found many files corrupted in my HDD and ALL my backups which is on different media type. M-Disc is relatively cheap and worth put the most important data for archive.

Need a blu ray burner!
Great, large capacity. Just make sure you have a blu ray burner not a cd/dvd burner

Disappointing!! 2 Failed out of 5! For over £60!
Having bought the 25GB M-Disc Pack in the past to archive my Dad's Car Film, I bought these 50GB Discs for creating a box set of my favourite Cameron Crowe TV Show 'Roadies'. After 2 successful burns, the next 2 Discs would fail after 3min! Pi**ed off isn't the word, especially given how the pack of 5 discs cost a whopping £60+!! I can't request a replacement to be sent, due to already opening the packaging and using 2 Discs.

Pretty legit
These feel high quality, haven't had any failed burns or later failures. The fact that they're M-Discs means they should last "centuries". Of course, it's a hard claim to verify (I believe the company does these tests by rapidly aging the discs in simulated conditions e.g. by subjecting them to heat or humidity and such, which will give some measure of confidence). When in doubt, I'd always go for an M-Disc over a regular Blu-Ray or DVD.

Parfait, les m-disc sont super car bezucoup plus resistant que les bd classic.

very good error rates - particularly at layer change. so many other BDR-DL50 discs (tested by me with various high quality drives) display major errors at layer change rendering them useless for archiving applications.

I've read a number of reviews here, and seems a lot of people are having trouble with the software. Hope my experience helps someone out there. *** Mac computers natively record BDXL with no issues *** You don't need any other special software. I use MDISC to archive files from an external hard drive connected via a USB 3.0 dock. It takes about 3 hours for 100GB to record and 2 more hours to verify the disc. I only ruined one, and that was negligence on my part, literally the cable was loose and disc was ejected mid-process. This is the writer I use: LG WH16NS40 Super Multi Blue Internal SATA 16x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter With this adapter cable: UGREEN SATA to USB 3.0 Adapter Cable for 3.5/2.5 Inch SSD HDD SATA III Hard Drive Disk Converter Support UASP Compatible with Samsung Seagate WD SanDisk Hitachi Toshiba, with 12V Power Adapter You can find a slightly cheaper cable, but it won't have the necessary power requirements. The cost of the writer with the cable is about the same as those slim portable ones, but from what I've read, this big ugly setup performs much more reliably. So far so good. I got a pack of 25x 100GB and also 25x 4.7GB for testing and smaller files. I recommend testing your setup on smaller MDISCS first so it doesn't cost so much if you mess up.

I thought the discs would be printable. They were printed. That could be me misreading the specs? Apparently there are 'MDiscs' and 'MDiscs'. I don't think current Verbatam MDiscs are as good as the originals? The first disc I burned had faults when played. Could be just a one-off?

Works well. Too expensive for what they are, but what you going to do if you want a hard copy of your data?
