Very easy to set up for my photo storage needs.
I wasn't looking forward to replacing my previous NAS box, a Zyxel Media Server, with two 3GB NAS drives in RAID 1 configuration. All support for this device had ended and it proved incompatible with the latest version of Windows. All of my photos from four decades of snapping then needed a new home that was always accessible to the family and secure. My main concern was how easy it would be to find a replacement to build the RAID and copy over the pictures, having battled with the old device's unfriendly user interface. But I was very pleasantly surprised by the comprehensive and easy to understand web interface that Asustor have developed. They provided a good preview of their software on their website, which gave me the confidence to go ahead with the purchase of the Asustor Drivestor 2 Pro. I chose the more powerful version to give myself a longer usable lifespan as storage demands increase in the future. It's made the whole job quick and simple. Having copied all the photos to a spare drive I reformatted the NAS drives and fitted them to the Drivestor. The tool-free front cover is simply held on firmly with magnets, so access to the drive bays is very easy. The drives slide in to connect with the SATA data and power connections with one click. Once powered up and connected to my networked PC the whole process of establishing a new secure home for my precious files was done. It does take some hours to format and copy more than a TB of data, but the box just got on with the task while I did something else online. I think the product is well built, the software and support easy to understand and the instructions clear. Quality appears good at this stage. The box is silent most of the time. Other household users can upload and download files to the store over my home network, using the shares I was able to allocate during the setup. Expanding the storage in future is covered by the instructions supplied. The web interface also has downloadable apps and a link to a "College" which explains the various uses that the store can be put to. The Drivestor can be used for much more complex demands than my simple photographic archive, but the economic price and high quality support made it the ideal solution for my problem. There's a 3-year warranty and all UK standards are met, with both UKCA and CE logos on the packaging and product.

Great starter NAS option
Been using this a few months now, works really really well. Super easy set up, no problems so far with this product. Its a great affordable price point to start a simple NAS & I'm really pleased with this. I've seen some reviews saying this is noisy - they must live in a dead silent house. Its very quiet- occasional feed back beeps (updating and rebooting) or the fan running a little hard if you're putting it through paces but otherwise this is next to silent.

Asustor Drivestor 2 Pro Gen2 AS3302T v2 NAS
Purchaced to replace a WD Mycloud Home that I have been using for 8+ years. The Asustor Drivestor 2 Pro Gen2 is a neat little 2 bay NAS that is easy to set up using the 'Asustor Control Center' app with a wealth of options available via the devices web interface. I Installed 2 SSD Drives and the unit is practicaly silent in operation. The speed via the 2.5Gb Ethernet port (my internal lan is already set up for 2.5Gb from Router, Network Switches and PCs) is lightning fast. Opening and saving documents on the Asustor Drivestor 2 Pro is as fast as opening them from my PCs hard drive. The web interface has a link that takes you to Asustors Online Help page that explains all the settings and options to you in detail. This is a proper NAS that can be used not only for storing documents and photos but running your own web server to running PLEX and a lot more! This is great value and a good introduction if you are looking to upgrade to a proper NAS system from a single drive storage system.

Cheap & accessible, noisy & constantly working, no sleep mode
Bought with x2 Seagate Iron Wolf disks. Easy to setup and get running. Some of the Apps are a bit tricky and require some research, but the online help is generally good. I don't have much experience with NAS, but the disks in this machine are constantly busy and noisy too. There's no manual sleep mode either. I've had to schedule power off overnight as I can hear it chugging away in the room next door at night. Edit: This turned out to be the Photo Gallery 3 App. I accidentally added a drive containing 10k photos, and this caused it to kick off ufraw batches to generate a database and thumbnails. It was doing about 200 per day so would have been running for 50 days. As there's no way to halt the PG3 processes, I did a factory reset and re-initialised the drive. It's fine now with "normal" activity. I'd recommend staying away from the PG3 app, and use something that can utilise the processor on your PC/ Mac instead. Same goes for Plex I think, if you import sizeable collections, you'll bog the unit down whilst it does the background stuff.
