Off Grid Kid: Survival Skills For Life: An Interactive Outdoor Survival Guide For Kids on Making Fire, Building Shelters, Foraging Wild Food and Improving Mindset Review: Fun and useful - I bought this for my 10 year old son as a birthday gift. I ordered in advance so I could read it first, and I was really impressed. It covers all the basics in a concise and interesting way: mindset/preparedness, foraging, shelter, navigation… even tips for specific environments like desert or urban survival. There are bonus true life survival stories as well. I think my kid is going to love it and really be inspired to play outside more. Great book! Review: Excellent book on survival - Usually these off grid books are not good. Mediocre at best, but this one does a great job of keeping things simple and interesting. I was getting worried in the beginning as it felt fluffy.. like ai text. But they did a great job of bringing it back and making it readable. I really like the liberal use of graphics - this is important as some concepts like starting fire or getting water is really hard to explain in only text. So I would gladly recommend this book as a prepper survival book.

Most Insightful!
This book is like a fun field guide that teaches you fundamental outdoor skills step by step so you can feel brave, prepared, and clever in nature. It turns learning into an adventure you can do with family and friends. I believe when a child learns a new skill, they don’t just survive, they shine. Pack courage, curiosity, and this guide, and go explore.

Lot of clever and practical topics
This is an interesting book, though I wouldn’t say it’s really aimed at children. It seems more like a resource for parents who want to teach their kids. I can imagine introducing my grandchildren to many of the activities described here. The book covers a lot of clever and practical topics—such as different types of campfires, the differences between shelters and tents, and even lessons on using a compass and navigating by the stars. There’s a wealth of useful knowledge packed into its pages. That said, I was quite disappointed with the book’s appearance. I had expected a lively, beautifully illustrated guide with colorful drawings and engaging pictures. For me, the visual side is very important, and this book fell short in that regard. The text also could have been broken up more effectively to make it easier and more enjoyable to read.

Good Start for Kids to Gain Confidence in Navigating the Obstacles of Life
Our family did a primitive survival camp when our son was twelve years old, and it was a wonderful experience for all of us. Our son (and us) learned many of the techniques described in this book (Believe the author when he says fire by friction takes a lot of patience!) and I could see the difference it made in our son's life. After that camping trip, we signed him up for a more advanced course which he took without us and came back with a sense of independence and confidence that helped shape his character in a very positive way. Even as a young adult he draws on those experiences, and he has a confidence in himself he would not have had otherwise. I bring this up because the author expresses the same goals for his book, and I think that is one of its strengths. He mentions Sully and how he was able to safely land the plane in the Hudson River. When Sully was interviewed as to how he could accomplish such an amazing feat, he replied, “One way of looking at this might be that for 42 years, I’ve been making small, regular deposits in this bank of experience, education and training. And on January 15 the balance was sufficient so that I could make a very large withdrawal.” Continuous learning is an important value for our kids to embrace and is best modeled by parents. I recommend this book as a good start in the author's objective of kids gaining confidence to navigate through the obstacles of life but to do as we did with the primitive survival camp - accompany them on the journey in the beginning by going through this book together and providing opportunities to implement the techniques described in a safe space, and as they learn and their confidence grows - they will naturally start using critical thinking and utilizing what they have learned on their own.

Great guide for kids!
This book is full of practical survival information that is appropriate for kids. The book starts out with a lot of emotional and psychological character traits that set one up for success in survival situations, which is more than what I was expecting. It also has a section on survival if a kid is alone or lost in a city, which is a bonus. Excited to give this to my son!
