It is a gift to my grandson who enjoys catching insects, snakes and frogs. The kit has all the tools for catching, examining and holding whatever he catches.

Decent bug catching set for young children.
This bug catcher set times two is very cute. There are exactly two of everything - two bug viewing boxes with a built-in magnifying glass in the lid and two toy spiders, two magnifying glasses, two sets of tweezers, two sets of clamps to safely catch various bugs, two butterfly nets, and two sets of scavenger hunt cards. Everything fits nicely into two carrying bags. The bags are very nice and well made. Everything in one set will fit in one bag for an exploring adventure. The bug viewing boxes are also very nice. They are all plastic so I can see these cracking or getting broken with adventurous outdoor play, but they are not flimsy. The magnifying glasses work as well as any other children's magnifying glasses, but are not exceptional. They are plastic. The clamps for catching creepy bugs will be fun and exciting to use!The butterfly nets have telescopic handles that, when reduced, fit nicely into the carrying bag, although the handle does stick out the top of the bag a bit. My main concern is that where the net screws into the handle, it's all plastic. This is a particularly vulnerable area when waving a net on adventures. I am expecting this to break pretty quickly once my children start trying to catch any flying bug.The scavenger hunt cards are waterproof, which is very helpful on outdoor excursions. There are two sets, exactly the same. A leaf card times two, a flower card times two, and an insect card times two. The illustrations are nice, but they are illustrations and they are not particularly realistic. They are bit childish, and some of the flowers are from different seasons - tulips, daffodils, crocus (they call it saffron, which is a part of a specific crocus), and hyacinth are all spring flowers. So almost half the flowers on the card can only be found for a small part of the growing season. All that to say, this is a cute set, and even with all the pieces, I think it's a little overpriced. It's nice, but not amazing amazing quality. I highly doubt a twelve-year-old would like this set. It's better suited to preschoolers or young elmentary schoolers. But for the right age group, it's a decent beginner set.
