Lightweight and sturdy.
This is a great letter opener. It’s lightweight and seems very sturdy. I think you could even cut yourself if you’re not careful. I did cut the metal ring off because, it was kind of annoying.

best salt knife ever made
I use the knife for cutting open ice melt bags. Couldn't ask for anything better. Sharp enough to do the job and will not rust.

Not made of steel; expect less durability. But it does go through metal detectors with the ring out.
This is not going to sharpen to where you want it to. To put it bluntly, this is a last-ditch self-defense weapon that should not be your first line of defense unless you take off the metal ring-it's easy to hold the ring upright and smash the ends apart with a hammer-and sneak it past a metal detector. I am not recommending you do so, due to the likelihood of this action making the knife illegal to carry in many places. However, I have wanded the knife with a standard handheld unit and it made it through (minus the ring, of course). Not gutsy enough to try it at TSA, and suspect it wouldn't work. They use x-ray as well, and it sure looks like a knife. Durability is questionable. When sawing through a cardboard box, the friction causes some of the finer sawtooth points on the blade to wear off, and the point it not durable, unless you make it too dull to as much damage as you might like. I would err on the dull and solid side, personally, as I would be aiming for the throat and face for maximum penetration and shock value. Being honest, this is more of a novelty toy than a real weapon, as any case where you would use it and not any other knife would mean you snuck the knife in somewhere you should not have. Bad move to risk your life to stop an attacker and then go to court over this legal issue.

For emergency situations
I ordered two of these plastic blades. They are exactly what the description states. Nothing else and nothing more. In my opinion, these are for concealment and when you may find yourself going through metal detectors/wand (sans the metal ring looped through the handle) for emergency type situations. I see complaints about being flimsy and the tip breaking. Well, these are not meant for every day use. If you want a utility knife, get a steel blade and be done with it. I made a sheath out of an old hotel room key and duct tape in under 3 minutes. If you take your time you can grab two hotel keys, a heat gun, small drill bit, and strong fishing line and you are done.
