Trust Me: ISO 42001 is not hust another management system
Trust Me cites ISO’s belief that ISO 42001 may become “as influential as the ISO 9001 quality management system”. If so, then Artificial Intelligence may drive AI management system demand at a scale like which occurred 32 years ago in preparation for (with ISO 9000 standards released in 1987) and following dismantling economic trade barriers among 12 European Community (EC) countries in 1992. This potential career and market opportunity merits serious consideration as AI may permeate all organizations at an unprecedented pace.Trust Me was published in 2024 shortly after ISO 42001 release in December 2023. Being first to market it provides a handy reference not only to the ISO 42001 Standard but also an introduction for other management system standards including quality management systems (ISO 9001), Environmental Management systems (ISO 14001), and Information Security Management Systems (ISO 27001). Other relevant documents are cited including risk management (ISO 31000) and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, 2023. Of relevance to the global economy is reference to the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act and requirement for quality management systems. However, ISO 42001 is not your father’s management system. The best part of the book is “AI systems hallucinate. AI inputs, processes, and output are not understood and may not be explainable.”These characteristics as they are understood at this time are completely alien to traditional quality management as practiced since at least the 1930’s, where inputs, processes, and outputs were mostly known and measurable. They also pose a challenge to risk experts working in structured strategic, program, and project environments where threats, vulnerabilities, hazards and ultimately risks can be reasonably determined. Thus, the emphasis on AI risk management challenges.Trust Me is a handy reference for experienced quality and risk management practitioners concerned with AI. It is also worthwhile for others that lack AI and ISO-like management system knowledge as it summarizes the ISO 42001 Standard, and synopsizes other related ISO, EU, and NIST publications. This review reflects my honest opinion as an experienced quality management and risk practitioner. I am acquainted with other publications by the author. I neither have any financial interest in this product nor received any compensation for this review.

An Essential Read if You Want to Understand ISO 42001
AI presents enormous opportunities for us to be more effective and efficient across all elements of society, but this will only be successful if we can employ these thoughtfully and safely while ensuring people trust these systems. ISO 42001 is an essential piece of the effective deployment of artificial intelligence and is one of the critical documents that anyone working in this space needs to understand and, in many cases, will have to adhere to.Unfortunately, as with many standards, ISO 42001 explains the requirements of an effective and safe AI system at a high level but is short on the detail needed to implement this effectively. This is where Trust Me: ISO 42001 AI Management System comes in.The authors, with their extensive experience in quality engineering, standards implementation, audit, and deep background in artificial intelligence, are well-equipped to dissect the ISO standard, offering the necessary level of detail for practical application.Critically, the authors also provide an overview and additional interpretation of the EU AI Act, which has additional details and criteria that companies using AI in any form within the European Union will have to adhere to.Threaded throughout the book are questions and considerations of AI risk, what this means in the context of the ISO standard and how companies can think about this both in ways to manage their risk and to build public trust in these essential systems. In the preamble to one of the sections, the authors write that they "[hope to] help the reader to not only understand AIMS requirements but appreciate their value and implement them effectively." They more than meet this requirement. This is an essential read for anyone who is going to be tasked with adhering to this standard and provides a much-needed level of detail.

Given the growing importance of AI and related concerns, this book is a must read.
This book provides an in-depth discussion of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Artificial Intelligence (AI) ISO 42001. ISO 42001 is the first international AI standard. The authors also discuss the European Union AI Act, its relationship to ISO 42001 and why risk management and risk-based auditing will be needed to help mitigate concerns associated with AI.Given the growing interest and concern with AI, this book is a must read.

A comprehensive guide to dealing with evolving AI risk management issues and standards
This book address a set of very complex issues in a comprehensive, yet readable, way. AI risks must be looked at from the viewpoints of both how AI models are built and how their output impacts various parties and stakeholders. To magnify the complexity, competing standards are evolving, such as those of the US and Europe. Any multinational entity will have to understand and comply with relevant standards wherever they do business, potentially creating a need to build processes that ensure that the appropriate standards and practices are applied on a contextual basis. This book describes how to look at AI risks, what evolving standards and requirements are emerging to address them and offers an approach to dealing with the complexity that this all creates. Overall, it provides a comprehensive road map to implement the organizational structures and processes you will need to address them.If you are responsible for overseeing AI for your organization, this is an excellent starting point to inform your planning.

Best ISO 42001 book out there
Kinda geeky. Comprehensive. Takeaway from standard is this won’t work for high risk AI. Great deal considering US price for standard is around $225.

Avoid
I bought this book as I wanted to know more about the ISO 42001 standard. It is little more than a regurgitation of the Standard, offering very little by the way of additional insight or guidance as to how an organisation can achieve ISO 42001 certification and how they can effectively implement the assicated controls. The majority of the text is poorly written - if I am completely honest, it smacks to me as having actually been written by an AI tool!Part of the books usp is that it is the first book in ISO 42001, which is true. However, it certainly will not be the best and it certainly does not justify its current price tag of £40.Very disapointed and book was returned for to Amazon.

Total waste of money
Totally agree with the previous reviewer. Poorly written regurgitation of the standard. Not worth the money. Very dissapointed. Zero star rating!
