Spins easily + tips for setup
Tips: the blades spin, but the item itself isn’t made to also turn around horizontally.. Set up accordingly! If you have a weather vane you already know that there is usually one dominating wind direction, so make the blades face that direction for the most spin. You probably also know this if you look at time-lapse satellite weather images: air is often moving in one direction more than others. Ues all the pole parts! I originally set mine up shorter, purposely leaving one pole section out for a shorter spinner height. But it didn’t catch as much breeze. I added the last section and it caught much more of the breeze. It spins a lot, very easily, so you don’t need a big wind to get this thing spinning. It is also really good looking. metal with a vintage finish has a way different look then plastic, and will probably last much better out in the elements. Very pleased with this purchase.

Not as advertised. Does not spin.
This product is very misrepresented! It's not a weather vane it's a wind wheel that only spins if you point it in the perfect direction of the wind in that minute. Shouldn't even have a tail. Ridiculous. Can't wait to return this product!!! It looks nice yet I feel deceived. Because I was.

You'll need to balance the blades, then permanently point it.
The assembly is not designed to swivel to meet the wind direction, but I knew that from other reviews before I bought. What I didn't know is that the blades would be grossly out of balance. If installed as shipped, I anticipated that it would take a significant breeze to overcome the gravity of the wheel sitting on the heaviest spot and even then, the lopsided turning action would be distracting at best, maybe even self-destructive. I anticipated all of that and balanced the blades before installing it. I pointed it in parallel with the prevailing wind direction on my patio and it spins with the slightest breeze on what appears to be a good quality bearing. I balanced the blades by applying glue from a hot glue gun to the back sides of three blades. Prior to applying the glue, I did a trial balance using multiple layers of duct tape to what ended up as three blades, then, replaced the tape weights one at a time with glue, making sure the overall blade was in balance between each blade's glue application. The glue is on the back (non-decorated) side of the blades, and the painted blades face the populated area of our patio so it looks fine.

Windmill does not pivot with wind direction
The blade part of the windmill works great if the vane was allowed to move. The windmill is directly attached to the 4 part pole if the top extension is loosely attached the vane can pivot, however the pole is now loose. This probably would not be a problem if the wind came from the same direction all the time allowing a tight pole, which is not the case in our yard.
