Dr. Steven Smith does a awesome job as an anthropologist researching General Francis Marion and the men that served with him in his South Carolina Patriot Militia Brigade during the Revolutionary War. I love how Dr. Smith’s research focuses on the Snow’s Island community during the Revolutionary War. Dr. Smith shows how the Snow’s Island community, through blood, sweat, and tears, supported the Patriots and General Francis Marion during the Revolutionary War. God Bless, Kaleb.

I enjoyed this book so much, I read it twice so I wouldn't miss anything. Steven Smith fills in a lot of gaps in knowledge about the Swamp Fox!

Smith's masterful interweaving of archaeology, military history, and sociology adds up to a significant contribution to our understanding of how Francis Marion was able to contribute so much to American victory with only a handful of poorly trained and badly equipped citizen-soldiers. Thoroughly documented and yet a joy to read.

The American revolution is a critical and complex chapter in our fascinating national history. This book provides deeper understanding of the role talented and motivated individuals, like Marion, played in the success of the rebellion.
