“what the hell is THAT?” Oh no....!!!
Dark souls has been around for a while but I hadn’t played it until 2020. You hear it’s hard and that a lot of people give up. Yeah. It’s true. But... The system of dark souls is one of continuous levelling up skills like strength or HP or endurance. Some enemies take a lot to kill or can be made easier by doing certain things. It’s a slow start in the game at first because you are just around a fire with some guy but very quickly it starts to escalate into fighting everywhere. Just quickly in the combat system - absolutely no button mashing to be had here at all. None! Not even an accidental press of anything. There is a small time delay and it’s almost like a “your turn, my turn” system. So you can dodge an attack but if you choose to attack and THEN dodge then you’ll get hit. Equipment you wear affects speed but sacrifices resistance to damage. It’s not a hard game, it just takes some patience and learning. Once you’re about a couple hours in and you start to “git gud” then you’re ok. And just always realising you never have enough of any stat to be ok. Bosses are numerous and interesting. You definitely die over 100 times in this and the most annoying thing is that like someone games, you don’t start at any checkpoints. You start at bonfires places at different locations and you have to go back to where you last started. This is the annoying part of dark souls. At least you get to keep Your items though. It’s a weird and awesome experience playing it on a huge TV for the first time though. The one world map is huge and impressive. Although you have to bare in mind it’s a remastered version of an older game. But even still I can see why it’s one of the best games ever made. At the start you keep forgetting that it’s Japanese and the Japanese style of combat is different to the likes of activision or blizzard or Bethesda. Konami was always unforgiving with mistakes and you have to be careful about Input. The satisfaction here comes from having tried so hard and finally killing something huge that turns out wasn’t so hard after all. It was just that you made a same mistake over and over until you learned.

My husband says this is very fun, intense, and action packed. It was in his watch list so I got it for him. The price was good. He said it wasn't too challenging. He has completed the game.

I'm new to Dark Souls so I started here. I was worried about the difficulty at first, and I'd say it took me close to 15 hours before I found a groove. But once I did, the satisfaction of taking down tough bosses, unlocking shortcuts, finding and upgrading gear, levelling up your character... it's just great. It's the best level design of any game I've played recently; everything is interconnected and you don't see how until you progress. My only concern is that the other Souls games won't make me feel the same way that this one did. I can see myself playing this one again as there's lots of replayability with NG+ and different character build types.
