Like many others, I'm sad about the recent negative changes to this cat food. Recommended by our breeder, our cat loved it initially. However, three recently purchased bags from Amazon were disgusting: orange-clay colored, impossible to break apart, and water-resistant. Our cat now refuses to eat it. This is disappointing as our cat has a chicken intolerance, and this was one of the few foods he could eat. Our breeder has recommended all adopters switch foods due to reports of several cats getting sick. I hope Primal addresses this quality control issue soon.

**update : we had to switch to a different company because it’s inconsistently in/out of stock. Specifically beef and pork. I think it’s the company itself because it’s been out of stock in local stores as well. We have a picky cat that has always has been the finicky one out of all 5 cats. While the others eat orijen kibble, our one strangling won’t touch the kibble even if we soak it in hot water like we do for the other cats - but this freeze dried stuff she gobbles down. It’s more expensive than the kibble , but you know … whatever keeps her from starving herself . *sigh* We still love her . It’s easy to break apart , and we always shred and soak it in very warm water before giving it to her. Also.. to add , she will only eat red meats. So the only proteins she will ever touch in the primal brand are the beef , the pork and the venison.

Yes, I know it says it’s cat food. But we use these as treats, especially in stuffed or frozen kongs, for the dogs. We feed a range of raw, kibble and fresh foods, so this is another option for the dogs’ diet. They like the Chicken and Salmon as well as the Beef and Salmon combos.

I've been feeding my 2 cats freeze-dried raw diet for almost 7 years, but always used Stella&Chewy's brand and they loved it. A little over a month ago I saw good sale on this Primal brand and decided to try it and ordered 4 bags on my subscribe and save. Received it on August 8, but still had opened big bag already of Stella&Chewy that I was feeding. So after finishing it I finally opened a bag of Primal on Monday. The nuggets of primal if much larger then Stella&Chewy's (compare on the photo) and it took long time to soak the water up. So I gave them 2 nuggets each, they seemed to like it. Ate it, but both of them started to throw up several times that day. I didn't think at first it was because of the food, and thought maybe it's just upset stomachs. So fed them home made chicken soup the next day, but the day after decided to try again and gave them only I nugget crashed in pieces, but sure enough one of them instantly threw up after eating again. Unfortunately my return window already closed by now, but called amazon anyway explain the problem and they're good about it and issued me a credit for the purchase. I'm not really sure why this food gave them this reaction, as they weren't new to freeze dried food. maybe it's the size of the nugget and they are eating it too fast, not sure, but king of reluctant to give it to them again. May try to completely crash it and try to sprinkle it on their food in very small portion to see if they could maybe tolerate it that way.

I have two cats, one is a picky eater and one isn't. I have been going through top brands of cat food trying to find something healthy for the picky one. He doesn't drink enough water so wet food is key, I gave this a try to replace the usual dry food. It doesn't smell great but it doesn't smell terrible, I have had to break the chunks up into almost a powder then mix it with water to serve it. I add more water than it requires because it helps my dumb cat get the water he needs, he seems to like the food a lot, he gets excited when he sees me making it in the morning. He seems to stay full and happy until I feed him again at night. The price is prohibitive but you get more than you'd think for the weight of the product. TL;DR: Easy to prepare, cat likes it, expensive.
