Great little arduino controller with so many uses for so little money
GREAT price for a TINY controller capable of so much!First let me say for all of you who had trouble with this thing go check out these GREAT directions from adafruit:https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing-trinket/setting-up-with-arduino-ideBE CLEAR when setting up the arduino IDE board type in Tools, you are working on a TRINKET 5V with this item. NOT a PRO Trinket.Secondly, yes you have to push the hardware reset button to get in to bootloader mode and upload a sketch, that is different from a regular arduino but easily doable and they provide a PIN to solder a wire to and make a remote reset button if needed. There IS a signed driver for windows 8 and a driver for Windows 7 from adafruit:https://learn.adafruit.com/usbtinyisp/driversI just got this today, messed with it for a bit, downloaded the win8 signed driver from the above link. I added the hardware info folder from the downloaded zip file in to my documents\arduino (where your sketches are saved) folder as described in the top link. Then I added the avrdude.conf from the top instructions link to my IDE path again as described in the directions. Chose the board and CHANGE PROGRAMMER to USBTinyISP in Tools menu and you are Good to Go.They talk about using the BLINK demo to test an upload. The pin in the default blink demo for the LED is 13 but you need to change it to 1 to get this LED to blink. So absolutely tiny for so many awesome users. I plan on using it with PIR detectors and a set of quad relays to trigger my Halloween decorations next year when someone is actually present rather than the crappy light sensors they use that hardly ever work!If you want out of the box plug and play then you may not like it but if you are familiar with pointing windows to the downloaded drivers folder when you plug it in and you don't mind adding some files to the arduino IDE then this should do just fine for you!

Perfect for my application
I use this to control a scale, model, train, carnival scene. The size of this is perfect to fit into a small area and where a relatively simple code is required. it’s a much cheaper alternative to the Arduino Uno. If only a few input/output. Ports are needed, this is perfect.

Very useful board.
These are great little arduino boards. I was able to create a custom count down clock with an attached piezo buzzer very easily and run it off of a cell phone booster battery. Note to the people saying that these don't work, they do require about 10 minutes of special set up. These don't have a serial programmer built in and much be programmed directly via USB. You will need to install the custom boards via a URL in your preferences and also install the special custom programmer. then, you have to push the button on the board before writing to it. You should check out the adafruit website for instructions. This is the 5V version of the board (there is also a 3.3V version). It can run at 8 mhz or 16 mhz depending on which board you pick in the arduino IDE

Small and inexpensive
These are cool because they are super small, and also super inexpensive. Please note, however, that these boards do not have a serial port, so using serial.write is not an option. Also, a button must be pressed on the board immediately before uploading to put the board into a mode which prepares it to upload the new Arduino sketch.

Great tiny micro-controller - sips power, delivers excellent performance
This was a great, fast buy. I needed one of the trinkets fast to help with a local high school tech club project. In particular these do a great job of driving the adafruit neo pixels, driving LEDs, reading button presses and other small tasks that you may need to quick and simple projects. It is amazing that this thing will run well on a tiny LiPo battery. Bear in mind that the 'serial port' is not a serial port: once you get the computer all ready, and then you push the button on the trinket to get the red light flashing *just before* you download the code. Only then will the trinket "wake up and pay attention" to the computer sending the programming down the line. All of this is covered in the manual, but it is worth repeating to prevent disappointment/frustration.

So very disappointed.... do not buy
So disappointed. I got this because of the good reviews and it came broken! The boot loader wouldn’t start. Went through the manual and troubleshot the board. Nothing worked. I reported it and I got a second one. Same problem! The boot loader would not activate. All I could find is that I have to buy another board to load the boot loader on. Why would I do that? I I bought a better board.... I’d just use that... anyway... these are going back. Really disappointed with ada on their quality and lack of instructions and troubleshooting.

Big bundle of use in a tiny package!
Lots of processor in a small package, perfect for projects that require only a few inputs and outputs. I've used these in several projects, now, and they behave flawlessly. They're comparitively easy to program and have LOTS of support through the Adafruit site. If you're just getting into microcontroller hobbying, this is a great way to go!

Perfect for little projects
I love these. Perfect for most of my small projects when you want something smaller than an Arduino and don't need all the input/outputs. Don't be afraid of the programmer install; Adafruit has a nice step by step tutorial on setting up the Arduino software, or they have a download ready to go.A word to Amazon regarding shipping: Please provide some more shipping protection! Mine shipped in a little pink anti-static ziploc baggy, thrown in a sizable box with another large blunt object. The bag showed evidence that pins had certainly given it a working over. Amazing the little pcb survived. I guess another testament to the product!
