Smelly and so warm
As others have stated, these blankets do not smell nice when you open them. I imagine it is some sort of lubricant used in the machines used to create them, but that is just a guess. Overall, that didn't bother me much because it airs out well enough and the blanket is great quality, though I haven't had it long enough to truly test the shedding/hold up to washing. Yes, it's stiff and a bit scratchy - it's pure wool! It's also SO warm and not bulky. If you like wool blankets, you'll like this. If using on your bed, just put a sheet between the blanket and your skin. Kind of wish they had additional colors on offer.

It’s thick, warm, wool. Nicely made and heavy
It’s thick, reasonably smooth, and “the smell” from other reviews goes away quickly. First day I got it the smell was present so I aired the blanket out for most of the day (draped over a couple,e of chairs) and now it smells like wool. I have it between a sheet and a blanket to add warmth to my side of a king bed and it does that very well.

King size is great folded in half.
Great product. We plan to invest in more of them. Color was as advertised as was the size and designs on the edges. It was certainly warm enough, and large enough to use folded in half, doubling the insulation and warmth. It is good weight for its size. I like the charcoal color. It is rustic yet forgiving. Good buy. Says 100% virgin wool on tag. Made in India.

A Soft blanket
Good product, you can feel it's virgin wool by it's softness. It smells a bit, but i know it will go away after a while. It is thinner then my other wool blanket which is not a virgin wool.

good heavy weight wonderful real wool
There is nothing, I mean nothing, that man has made so far that warms you like good old nature- made wool. It doesn't take your own body heat to make it warm up- when it touches you it's already warm. And it's warm even if wet. It's one of natures miracles like real meat; man just cannot reproduce the qualities in the lab, only nature itself. Wool is winters' comfort fabric just like good beef stew is the food equivalent. I bought the throw size because it can be used when sitting in a chair and big enough to wrap around one person liberally but also we throw it over the middle of the bed when it's really cold. It doesn't make us too hot or weighed down which we can't stand. These are thick and heavy and (to us) not itchy at all, and one of us (he-him) has always said wool is too itchy. If you like a lot of weight and heft and live in a very cold place the bigger ones might be more of what you're seeking. Ours did come, like many others have mentioned (and why they haven't fixed this complaint of many I don't know), with an odd smell almost like it had been dry cleaned. I washed it on warm and let it drip dry until it was half dry and then hung it out on the deck for a day. Then tossed it into air fluff cycle for 15 minutes to fluff it up. That seems to have done the trick. It still has a faint smell but I will give it a second treatment and the scent of real wool will then shine. Anyway these are wonderful little throws and have already cheered and heated up a sicky in the fam that had the chills and they loved it. (she-me)

Thick and warm - gets much softer with washing!
The queen size is almost 6 lbs, so if you enjoy the feel of a heavier blanket and you’re looking for one that is actually 90x90 (and not 66x90), this is the one for you. Mine shed quite a bit with the first wash, but much less since that initial one and it’s only continued to get softer. Probably not recommended, but it has held up to the dryer on low just fine without any noticeable shrinkage/felting (material seems as though it was already felted prior to being finished). Blanket did smell strongly of machine/spinning oil when first opened, but most of that smell had actually dissipated prior to the first washing.

Nice and warm
Very warm and cozy. Only complaint is when it first arrived there was an interesting smell from perhaps the wool washing, not sure, but it went away in a day or two so might have just been the packaging.

Can we be sure these are 100% virgin wool?
Before discussing the blanket itself I have an actual complaint about Amazon's handling of the package. One small selling point for this blanket was that it "Includes a reusable storage pouch". This naturally enough was a zippered clear plastic pouch, like you often get with bedding of all sorts, which it actually ships in. Unfortunately mine arrived badly ripped along one side and hastily "repaired" with packing tape. Presumably this was Amazon's fault, not the seller's. I would have found it convenient to use the pouch for summer storage but it's too badly mangled to be salvaged. Luckily there was no detectable damage to the blanket itself so it wasn't a big enough issue to warrant a return. That said, anyone else who buys this might consider selecting the shipping option for additional packaging, Earth hostile though that might be. The blanket itself seems thin but dense, not fluffy. The dimensions match the advertised 90" x 66" for the twin. Competing blankets are often 2-4 inches smaller which is one reason I choose this one (a couple of inches might not matter if it's draped over your shoulders while camping but I'm using it as a bed blanket in a cold room.) I don't have a scale to verify the claimed weight of 4.2 lbs. Admittedly I don't have any experience buying wool blankets in today's modern world, but this blanket seems not as warm or substantial as the army surplus blankets of my long expired youth. I've bought two of these (because just one didn't turn out to be warm enough) and both had a smell but it wasn't too bad, and as they air out it's becoming even less noticeable. Again due to inexperience I can't tell the smell of lanolin from that of petroleum but my guess is the smell is not evil enough to be from some vicious industrial chemical. Note that one seller of a competing blanket advises that the smell of these blankets comes from the dye used on them and they further explain that the dye is not water soluble so washing will not have any real effect, only airing them out will do the trick. This seems plausible to me. The blankets seem well made and neither is shedding though I can't tell if they're woven or felted. What I'm most ambivalent about is whether these are truly 100% virgin wool because there seems to be no way for an ordinary consumer to tell the difference between these blankets and the more common 80% wool 20% man-made fiber blankets (apparently even then the wool might be from recycled fibers.) While these blankets have a tag claiming they are 100% virgin wool, there are no OEKO-TEX certification tags and that worries me. Counterfeiting of goods is a problem out there and it seems possible to me that the manufacturer is merely telling the seller these are are 100% virgin wool while what they are shipping is the more basic 80/20. If these are genuine then at this price they are the best value you're going to find out there and one should grab them before tariffs of whatever make them more expensive or even unobtainable. If the materials are misrepresented then we're paying more then we would for an 80/20 blanket from a competitor. The lack of certification makes me very unsure about this product and the most I can give it is 4 stars and maybe a smarter person would say 3 at most.

This is, hands down, one of the best purchases I’ve made in years. From the moment it arrived, it was clear this is a seriously high-quality wool blanket. It came beautifully packaged, complete with clear care instructions and even a moisture control sachet—little thoughtful touches that show real pride in the product. The blanket is huge, heavy in the best possible way, and feels incredibly durable. The weave is tight, the finish is clean, and it just screams “built to last.” And let me say this clearly: there is absolutely NO smell. None. Not even a hint. I was a little concerned from some of the reviews mentioning odors, but I can honestly say mine was fresh out of the packaging and ready to use immediately. No airing, no washing, no weird chemicals—just clean, pure wool. It’s perfect for fireside evenings and bushcraft trips, and I fully expect it to last a lifetime with the right care. This is one of those “buy quality once” kind of products—and I couldn’t be happier. Highly recommended. I’ll be buying another!

I was worried about the smell based on other reviews, but this smells mostly like wool and a little bit like a detergent, lemon perhaps. On a king size bed (13"+boxspring), it is a generous size, comes down to the rails at side. Corners are radiused. Edges are stitched in black with a decorative white stitch trim overtop. I would say it's a medium or standard thickness, but dense. The wool is relatively (relative to other wools that is) soft for the style, but it's not a fluffy brushed sort of affair. Best as an overblanket, not right up against the skin. No shedding noticed. It is indeed a bit breathable. Using as a layer with rayon/eucalytpus sheets + [ quilt, or down duvet ]. Does a good job at providing warmth without sweatyness. It's really quite nice for the price.
