Classroom Management That Works: Research-Based Strategies for Every Teacher

Perfect for my needs.
I read a lot of the other reviews of this book and many were negative. The biggest complaint being that it is too general or covers many things that we are doing already. I have been teaching for 24 years. I have taught in 2 school districts and covered every grade level from Pre-K to 12th grade. I am working on a project in classroom management for a Master's Class and I found this book to be perfect. Were there tons of surprises in it for me? Not at all. But, many of the strategies I have utilized for years this book talked about the research behind why they work. Sometimes in reading that research you might have an idea for how you could tweak something just a little bit and make it even better. To those other reviewers my advice would be not to look for an instruction manual on teaching. It doesn't work. Your kids are different than everyone else's kids. Instead look for books like this that provide the broad ideas and use those to narrow down to strategies you believe will work in your classroom! If you buy it I hope you find it as useful as I did and thanks for taking the time to read my review.

Marzano Disappoints With a Sub Par Management Book
After reading Marzano's other books and seeing how effective some of his materials and strategies can be, I was extremely disappointed in this book. I found his book Classroom Management that Works to be a below average book on classroom management when compared to other classroom management books. Marzano does a nice job of highlighting some basic strategies to help with classroom management, but he fails to address the major issues facing teachers and the classroom today. Marzano fails to help teachers more effectively manage classrooms in order to maximize classroom instruction. He also fails to provide teachers with more strategies to motivate students. Furthermore he fails to provide teachers with strategies for promoting parental involvement to help achieve greater student success. I was also disappointed that the book did not address managing large classrooms nor did it address managing difficult student student behavior. Moreover Marzano does not provide teachers with strategies for altering student behavior in order to eliminate negative behaviors and elicit proper behavior. I believe Marzano has provided schools with some wonderful books and resources and it hurts me to say, but I don't believe this to be one of them. With much regret, I must say, there are far better management books available.

Textbook for Teaching Course
This text was required for an online class I took. I loved the convenience of being able to order it from Amazon and have it instantly on my Kindle! Also, having the choice to rent or buy on many textbooks is an awesome option to save some money. Once the rental period is up, you usually have the option to purchase the text and get credit for the amount you paid to rent it. So if you decide you want to keep it you don't end up paying both the rental and purchase prices!

... a small book but it has a lot of great material in it
You know it is quite a small book but it has a lot of great material in it. For future teachers, it is always helpful when you can get an insight on how to properly manage your classroom by other master teachers. There are often times loads of tips that we seem to over look that can really make your classroom environment a much better experience.

The Book is a Class Treasure
We used this book as a text for a behavior management course from JBV from Sioux Falls University. It was great. It was easy to read, easy to understand easy to use and the research-based study, data and varied management philosophies made this book a great resource. I plan to refer to it frequently throughout my teaching career. I want to know it well.

Great tool for school leaders and instructional coaches.
Classroom management is so important, and yet teachers often take feedback related to classroom management very, very, very personally. Marzano's book create a "third person" in the room and helps ground coaching conversations around classroom management. The strategies outlined in the book are all common, simple to execute, and known to be effective. Anyone can use this book to improve their craft or to help a colleague. Plus, it's short and easy to read. That's a big help to a busy teacher.
