Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression

If you're a clinician, it will change the way you treat depression
This book is a tour de force; even if you're not particularly interested in the narrow premise of MBCT (an 8-session mindfulness class designed for maintenance of gains in those who have left the acute phase of depression) it's worth reading for the clear, cogent and clinically relevant cognitive model of depression and how mindfulness practice can help. This book is probably better for clinicians; if you're suffering from depression or have in the past and are looking for mindfulness based help, finding an MBCT class to join might be a better choice than reading this book.

Major contribution to reducing suffering
The initial summary of approaches to depression over the years is a worthwhile purchase and read on its own. Not everyone will make the commitment to their own well-being that this approach takes, however, if done, a true difference will be found. The practices can be used as a foundation for an improved daily life, empowering those who have struggled with the helplessness of recurrent depressive episodes. I am grateful to the authors for the enormous work and commitment they have given to the approach. There is the potential for many to benefit.

This is a wonderful primer on MBCT, great resource!
This is a wonderful primer on using MBCT in the treatment of depression. If you've looked for this type of book, I'm confident that you've found exactly the correct one. It covers all the relevant topics with in-depth information organized in an accessible, well-written format. As a clinician I found this book truly inspiring with concepts that were familiar to me presented in a way that was easy to then begin to integrate into my practice.

Great for practicioners
Great for practicioners...some material meant for them to use with clients during therapy sessions...but the information is useful. And, I like the other perspective on therapy and using mindfulness in conjunction with it.

fantastic update for a burgeoning therapeutic technique
This is new revision of a classic text that brought MBCT to the attention of the mental health community. It includes updates on the research findings of the past 10 years including the latest theoretical implications. It also offers audio files of meditations which many will find quite helpful. It continues to paint its subject matter in clearly outlined brush strokes that is clinically relevant to a wide audience. Overall, an important update on a psychotherapy that is of growing importance.

Great book
This book is very informative. As a school psychologist it helps me understand these aspects of therapy so I can be aware of them in my own practice.

Excellent presentation of the history of the development of the ...
Excellent presentation of the history of the development of the theory that has merged cognitive therapy and mindfulness based practice into a cohesive therapy. Well written for the therapist who wants a foundational understanding of MBCT.
