i just love Toby Jug
Another beautiful true story of a beautiful cat. I felt that I really knew Toby Jug when reading this book, which is a follow up to the first book Paw tracks in the moonlight. Unlike a previous review that said he felt he did not learn anything from the book I feel this was an unjust comment. In this book we meet "Lady May" a horse, the vicars wife, her 2 ponies and hens, the tale of the hornets nest, the witch. These are just a few of the stories. I always felt when I finished Paw tracks in the moonlight there were plenty more stories about Toby Jug and I w's very pleased when this book was released. However I was sad when I had finished the book because as I believe this is the end of the tales about Toby. If you love cats then the is a must. However to enjoy this book you really should have read, or must read Paw prints in the moonlight first. Please note, I have nothing to do with the author, publisher or amazon in promoting this book.

Toby Jug - a fascinating tale.
I found it truly fascinating... please do read his other books too, including the one on his childhood and growing up - not to be missed even if you are not specifically a 'cat person'. If you love wild scenery, horses, or animals in general or are a country lover then you should find this book very interesting. In truth I only have one criticism..... it isn't long enough!

A gentleman reminiscing about his feline friend and the country cottage life.
I read "Pawtracks in the moonlight" first, which is not necessarily essential, but probably helps with enjoyment of this chapter of their life in one year, in the late sixties. A charming, well written read, which allowed me to escape the confines of lockdown late 2020, early 2021. He describes his lovely quaint and genuinely ancient cottage, the surrounding Northumberland countryside and nearby coastal areas with such exquisite detail , I frequently paused reading to allow myself to absorb and ruminate on various feelings and images formed of cold crisp morning walks, the wildlife described, starry skies, a spot of boating and tasty food being consumed. This is the sort of book I will re-read several times over the years. The reason I deducted a star was I was horrified by the witch and torture chamber encounter, which is only a page or two, but is a dreadful, disturbing account, the author admits he regrets involving himself, but could have been omitted or less detail given.Other than that, it's a lovely read if, of course , you like cats, but also countryside, wildlife, horses, crackling log fires, pints in a pub.

Another wonderful read...
I was really delighted to find that Denis O'Connor had written another book about Toby Jug, because I said at the end of my review on his last book how much I would enjoy reading more of his adventures with this very special cat. Denis has a unique and very readable style of writing, and I highly recommend this book to any animal lovers. It is not essential to have read the first book, ('Paw Tracks in the Moonlight' - which tells how Denis rescued Toby Jug as a very tiny kitten), but I think it must add to the enjoyment of this book to have read that one first. My thanks to Denis O'Connor for another wonderful book, which I shall definitely be reading again.

Love Never Dies
This was an excellent account of a man and his pet cat named Toby Jug. It covered just a few years of their life together. The writing was engaging and reminded me of James Herriot. The love and respect that Mr O'Connor has not only for Toby Jug, but for all animals and nature shines through in every chapter. Every night I looked forward to my reading time and was sad when the book came to an end.I would recommend reading Mr O'Connor's childhood memoir, "Paw Tracks" and then "Paw Prints in the Moonlight" before reading this one. They were just as good and give more background information on the writer and Toby Jug. It isn't necessary to understand the story, but it deepens one's appreciation for it.One thing that struck me most is how much love Mr O'Connor still has for Toby Jug decades after his life ended.

One of My Favorite Books
I was hooked after the first paragraph. LOVED this book. Had me laughing and in tears. I loved the style of writing that made me feel like I was right there with the author, going through everything he went through. So very, very touching. Made me want to go and visit the author in person. Such a great story, such a great teller of his story with the little black and white cat. This book goes right up there with the other few favorites that I hold close to my heart. It left a lasting impression on me and it will forever be a book that makes me smile.

Denis O'Connor is THE best writer !! There are few people that can literally wrap their characters around you , and this is It ! I lost my little hardcover set of these books when I had to move .... so happy to have found them again.... It's not often you can read some stories, read them again, and again .... never tiring of them ! AND, always finding something new...... these are my " little treasures ". Thank you Mr. O'Connor, for the pleasure of your company, Bless You, Your Dear Wife, and of Course, All of The Kitties ... XO.
