Great! Simple! Sharp!
Good experience. The package arrived earlier than quoted and the product works great!I read many Amazon reviews on this product and a few stated the packaging was worn and the product was used with a dull blade.I can now understand why some people may have been confused. The packaging was a little shelf worn, but it was also sealed - so I do believe this was a new product. Also - the installed blade did have some scuffs on it. Honestly - I thought, SONOFAGUN! This is refurbished or something. BUT NO - my husband, who is a machinist, looked at it and pointed out the top side of the blade is not the finished side. The scuffs on the top side are normal marks from machining the blade. The underside was shiny, unmarred, and SHARP. SO. SHARP.I am very happy with this product - it is just what I needed. I am also happy I went simple, tried and true. I read many 3rd party reviews of mandolins in general (if you've looked - you know there are many degrees of complexity and price available) and the Benriner was frequently tops citing simplicity and value. I have to say I agree. It is not complicated and the price is right. I'm happy!

Very good mandoline for an unbeatable price
An amazing mandolin which I've found works even better than most triple its price and the blade is easy to remove, clean and sharpen. Unfortunately I very quickly ended up losing the second slicing blades and never got much chance to use them, but the flat blade works very well and the entire tool is very easy to get clean. Makes slicing jobs that would previously take tens of minutes or even hours take well under five. The rate at which this thing can go through vegetables is often astounding, I have had multiple guests practically left in awe of how fast I can prepare a salad just running most of the vegetables through this mandoline. It does need occasional sharpening to avoid hard food like potatoes from sticking or onions from getting caught in it, so if you're not comfortable with that you may want to look elsewhere but you're going to have a hard time finding a better deal. If you are going to buy this or any other mandoline slicer I highly recommend getting a pair of cut resistant gloves. The NoCry Cut Resistant gloves I initially bought alongside this mandoline work quite wonderfully.

Great for more then just small jobs!
I used to use a big professional stainless model but found it too cumbersome for small jobs. Enter this little time saver, fast and effective withhardly any moving parts and a removable blade that makes re-sharpening easy this is now my goto mandolin for slicing and shredding. Not just for small jobs but larger ones as well. So easy to clean and maintain and if cramped for time just throw it in the top rack of your dishwasher an it comes out super clean. Operation is simple and by the book, just watch your hands and go slow when you're at the end of whatever it is your slicing. The built-in slice guard is also great for keeping your fingers away from the blade. All in all an excellent addition to my kitchen, would highly recommend to anybody looking for a mandolin to handle small to medium jobs.

Awesome, useful, and CHEAP
I forget where i got the recommendation from for this - but THANK YOU to whoever/wherever I did. This super cheap tool out-performs a very expensive one I was given, and others I've tried. It is crazy sharp, easily stored, and cleans up really quickly with hot water & soap.In regard to the SHARP part - yes, you need to be careful. Yes, I managed to cut myself the 2nd time I used it - but that was me not paying close enough attention. I take my time, and use the guard when I get to the end of whatever I'm cutting, and so far so good (crossing slightly scarred fingers ;) )But seriously - this is a great tool for slicing small food - try it with Brussels sprouts!! Cucumbers! Onions!!! So great :D

A food prep time saver!
Honestly, how did a live without a mandoline? I had not known there was such a thing as a low cost but good performing mandoline until I read about it in a cookbook from Mark Bittman. The mandoline has made my prep work in the kitchen so much easier. The blades are sharp and have lasted through a lot of fruits and veggies. I use it primarily for slicing carrots, potatoes, cucumbers, squash and other veggies. It slices easily through the tough carrots and is gentle on delicate tomatoes. I also make baby food on a weekly basis and this makes the process so much easier! Prior to having my mandoline I would spend quite a bit of time prepping the veggies to be steamed and now it's a simple process. I just set the straight blade on the thickest setting and along I go!However, there are a few drawbacks to this slicer:SAFETY GUARD IS USELESS. The first time I used the slicer I was being extra cautious and I still cut my thumb. The cut was pretty severe. I tried to use the safety guard with slicing but it wouldn't hold the zucchini I was cutting. Call me an amateur but even experienced chefs can cut themselves.PLASTIC PARTS. Be aware that Amazon shows the slicer as having metal parts that adjust the thickness. However, the mandoline I received had neon green plastic parts. I have read in other reviews that it used to have metal parts but it had a tendency to rust so they updated the product to include plastic parts. I haven't had this slicer for more than a few months so I cannot confirm how the product holds up with time. I will update if there are any issues with its performance.SMALL SURFACE AREA. I didn't realize this until I purchased the mandoline but this will definitely not hold a full sized onion or tomato. I'm a little disappointed in that because I am a gardener and have a lot of tomatoes and onions that I cut during the summer season. Unfortunately, onions are one of my least favorite vegetables to cut! I will now have invest in the Super Benriner Slicer (Large, 5"x13") of this mandoline that is available on Amazon if I want to cut a full-sized tomato or onion.Even with these drawbacks, I am happy with this mandoline. It's a great value for its price!
