Size:1"-11-1/2 NPT Drill America DWTPT series Qualtech carbon steel pipe tap is designed to clean and/or re-thread damaged or jam pipe threads. It is appropriate for threading a wide variety of materials both ferrous and non-ferrous. The nominal size of a pipe tap is that of the pipe fitting to be tapped, not the actual size of the tap. The thread tapers 3/4 of an inch per foot. All pipe taps furnished with a 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 thread chamfer. NPT threads require the use of a sealer like Teflon tape or pipe compound. Uncoated tools feature just the base substrate without any additional treatment or coatings and are suitable for a wide range of applications. Round with square end shank. Straight flute tools allow chips to collect in the flutes as they cut and are well suited for most applications in shallow cuts. Right-Hand cut tools have a cutting action that engages when they are run in a clockwise direction.

Nice for the price
It's a tap-does what it says, says what it does. Definitely carbon steel, lube it while using it, keep it in oil coat after use like any steel tap/die.Saved me having to rip out a section of drain at the house just to replace a T fitting. Normally I would replace the fitting, it would be much cheaper, but this fitting was part of my bathroom sink drain and vent system. The horizontal nipple from the P trap to the drain/vent T branch had corroded and fused threads. I would have had to rip out all that pipe from the floor to the roof to replace the T fitting. Instead, I bought this tap and big bottle of Tap Magic. Let me tell you, I've never been happier with a tap in my life. Labor and money saver!

Good for cleaning up threads
A proper tap from a name brand costs 5x as much, so you know there's some corners cut and probably not the correct tool for heavy duty use like making new threads in hard steel. For me, I had an air compressor tank outlet where the brass reducing fitting became corroded into place and couldn't be removed using normal means. I drilled it out and used this tap to clean up the mess. It made short work of the brass and cleanup up the steel threads no problem. Even if I only use it that one time it's paid for itself.

One Time Use Was Fine
This tap was needed for a one-time-only use - tapping a 3/4 NPT thread into the exhaust block of an aluminum Honda pressure washer engine for a special project. It did a fine job and will likely not be used again. The threads were sharp & cut with no trouble using a socket wrench, ratchet handle & cutting oil. (Local hardware & plumbing stores did not stock a tap this big.)The tap came in a sturdy 2 part slide-together plastic sleeve which will serve as its protective sheath for storage after rust proofing.

Did not last...
The tap seems hefty but it did not last very long. I barely managed to clean/slightly expand one (1) existing 2" thread in soft cast iron and few of the teeth broke (see pictures). It kind of did the job but I decided to return it and next time buy a better one. It might work on some materials (PVC, copper etc) but did not work for me.

Saved me a lot of work!!
Bought the 1.5 inch TapHad a leak in my kitchen drain line. When i removed the only galvanized pipe the threads broke off inside the cast iron fitting. I was able to remove half of the threads via every method I could think, but I just couldnt access the second half of the threads. Bought this as a last resort, but I should have bought it first. My only complaint is that the is square instead of HEX so I couldnt use Sockets. I was able to use a 1 1/8 inch opened ended wrench to turn the piece. I eventually figured out that an 1 3/8 inch socket would kind of fit on the square head and was able to use my socket wrench and pry bar to finish the job.

Not the best tap in the world - Works, but not well
Took an enormous amount of torque and lube to thread PLASTIC. I think they're just a bad design (grind angles, etc) I've tapped stainless with good taps that was easier than this in cast urethane. Anyway, I only had to do 20 holes, so I wasn't about to blow a paycheck on a good tap, so I guess they're OK, but I would pass over these for anything even remotely like production work.

Nice but requires elbow grease
This is exactly what I needed to clean up threads on a cast iron pipe. The 1.5" tap I received resembles the picture, but has 6 flutes instead of 4.To use this you'll need to be sure you have some serious leverage and thread cutting lubricant. It was slow going, and required a lot of strength. Luckily I had a 20" crescent wrench and enough space to use it. I wish had a longer lever though. I'm an average size guy and was unable to turn this with a shorter lever. Your milage may vary. This was cheeper than a plumber but, is not for the timid. If you're considering this just be prepared for some serious work.

Competitive price, does what it should
I bought this to chase threads on a 60 year old home's sink drains during a remodel. The pipes were in surprisingly good condition, but the old cast iron pipe threads needed to be cleaned up. The tap was tapered well so starting was easy, the hardness seemed good, nothing chipped, and it was the best price I could find. This is not a tool I use every day, week, month or year, but it sure beats paying a plumber if you have the basic skills & knowledge to use it properly.

Attention RVers
Used this 3/4" NPT Tap to clean the threads for the Anode Rod on my Suburban Water Heater in my Motorhome.Used a little vegetable oil on the Tap for lubricant since regular petroleum based oils could possibly contaminate the water lines in the motorhome. The Anode Rod fits much better now and doesn't feel like I'm cross threading while installing. Good tool to have for future maintenance.

Good value for a hobbyist
I used it to tap for a plug on the LS heater hose line on the water pump. Tap held up fine. Just take your time while tapping aluminum as it will gall. Should be just fine in steel. It's a good piece for the price no doubt.

Pool heater problem.
My drain plugs wouldn't screw back into my pool heater,I noticed the threads in the heater were rusted and damaged,l tried everything but still could not get plugs to enter the heater screw drain holes.I determined I needed a 1/4 -18npt tap and went straight To Amazon and found a carbon steel 1/4-18 not high quality tap which was delivered next morning.I gently retapped the drain holes and entered plugs with no problem.I opened up the pool and thanks to Amazon the family were back swimming.Amazon has never let me down love you guys.

as expected
was correct to do what I had to do, but it wasn't a huge test for a tap. It easily cut into alumium. It what I was expecting for this price. Don't know how it works on other material
