This unit will make the best coffee ever. Period.
UPDATE: Here's an interesting tip. The 26 ounce cans of pre-ground "house brand" coffee such as Great Value or Shure Fine have plastic snap-top lids that fit that fit the top of this plastic cone perfectly! Use one to keep the heat in while dripping, or set up the night before and cover the cone securely. Even the colors almost match! PLEASE NOTE: Many of the reviews here, especially 1 star are NOT FOR THIS UNIT! They are for some ceramic pot and appear here in error! This review is for the glass pot and is a unit I purchased, not "free for review." Bottom line for the impatient or over-caffeinated: This unit will make the best coffee ever. Period. Rest of the story: Years ago, Melitta ran ads showing their automatic drip maker and this pot with the phrase, "Automatic or Manual." This was a take-off on the automatic and manual transmission of cars and their comparative benefits. Automatics are convenient, keep the coffee hot and some have clock-timers. But, as "hipsters" can attest, pour-over makers offer more control of the brewing process. For example, the ability to pour some water over the grounds, let it "bloom" and extract and then pour in the remaining water prevents ground from floating to the top of the cone, essentially unused. And, in my experience, if you put the kettle on and then grind, measure and fill the cone while the water heats (not before!), the whole brewing process is shorter than an automatic drip cycle! I used a stainless steel insulated carafe to hold coffee after brewing as opposed to compatible hot plates. If you've read this far, here is another very important part: This is an (up to) 10 cup maker and uses the original #6 filters, not the far smaller #4. This is critical. #6 filters give you room to "work" the grounds as described above. The ability to saturate the grounds with small amount of water to extract the coffee and then add the remaining water is much, MUCH easier with a large cone. #6 cones are available online and in better-stocked stores. You do not have to make 10 cups of coffee to use #6 cones. When I make just one mug, I use a common #4 in the #6 cone. Early automatic makers used #6 cones but later switched to #4 to make smaller units. They also had to come up with various "sprinkler heads' to saturate the grounds. Some even tried to pulse the water to fully extract the coffee from the grounds. Some models work OK, some don't. And some change over time as minerals in the water clog the piping and pump and alter the dynamics of the whole system. This unit and a kettle (electric or stovetop) keeps things simple. This is not my first unit. I've had them on and off for years, tried pump units, went back to pour-over, etc. But in the long run, this is the most effective, least expensive and just plain good way to make great coffee. I'm sure you can find a $100 "Super Barista" pour-over with some elegant design execution and that is fine if you want it. But the basic physics of using a #6 cone are the same.

It’s a Keeper
Already had a 27 oz, but needed a larger size for company. Pour overs are great. Hot water and coffee, that’s it. No moving parts, tubes, digital displays all prone to fail. Better coffee and a space saver.

Excellent cup of coffee
My go to coffee maker. Love it. So easy and a very easy clean up.

Best way to make coffee!
I am sorry but there is no better way to make coffee than this thing. It just makes it so easy and it always comes out great. I tried other ways they weren't as good so I bought my 5th Melita pot because invariably someone bangs it and it breaks. Be sure to buy buy number 6 coffee filters. I buy them by the case that lasts about half a year.

Pretty good - should be insulated.
I guess my one complaint with this coffee maker is that the carafe should be insulated. As it is, it is just glass (or maybe Pyrex, I don't know), and has practically zero insulating ability, so the coffee cools off very quickly. We wrap ours with a dish towel, which helps reduce heat loss somewhat. I would happily pay a few extra dollars for a thermally insulated version of this brewer. As for the overall taste of the coffee, it is quite good. There is, however, one thing I should mention, and that is foam. Or rather, lack thereof. If you are the type of person who likes your coffee to have a good head of foam on it, then you won't like this manual brewer very much, because the paper cone filters out the foam. A better option for foam lovers would be a French Press. We actually have 3 different coffee makers, the pros and cons of which I will summarize below. Personally, my major pet peeve is moldy coffee. I guess I'm more sensitive to the flavor of mold than most people because I'll often turn my nose up to it when others swear up and down the coffee tastes fine. Every electric drip coffee machine I have ever owned has always produced moldy coffee, despite daily cleaning. So I simply won't own an electric drip anymore. So my list of coffeemakers below are all alternatives to electric drip, and none of these ever produce moldy coffee: 1) This unit - Melitta Cone Filter Coffeemaker - Good tasting coffee as long as you don't want the foam. You control the amount and type of grounds, as well as the temperature, so you can make it any way you want. Very easy to clean, so there is little risk of any parts acquiring the dreaded moldy flavor. Wish it was insulated, but it's still a pretty good maker. Be sure to buy #6 sized filters, as the #4 filters that you find in most stores are not really big enough. 2) Keurig - yes, I know, they are expensive, there is limited selection, and the pods consume space in landfills. But they never produce moldy coffee! And with 4 people in our house making coffee at 4 different times on weekday mornings, the Keurig sure is convenient. 3) French Press - Probably produces the most gourmet and yes, European style coffee because it retains the foam. It is my favorite for flavor, but it's hard to find a French press big enough for a family, so I only use it when it's just me and the wife enjoying a cuppa. Slightly more complicated to clean because you should really spin the basket apart and clean each element thoroughly - but it is certainly possible to keep it clean enough to avoid mold. I kind of like having 3 different ways to make coffee, depending on my mood and how much time I have. Variety is the spice of life, 'ya know? By the way, if you do happen to buy this unit or a French Press, allow me to suggest a nice appliance to compliment it: An electric water boiler. I scoffed when my wife bought one, because I didn't like the idea of it taking up counter space, and I couldn't imagine that it could boil water any faster than our Viking gas cooktop. I was wrong! It actually DOES boil water faster than our gas cooktop! Turns out I love it, and use it all the time. Ours is a Chef's Choice 681. Great way to boil water for a manual coffeemaker such as this Melitta.

Helps reduce counter clutter
I absolutely love it, I no longer have a coffee maker taking up space on my counter top and my coffee takes no time to make and tastes great

Works great and as expected, and can't beat the price. I have an induction stove so boiling water in my stove top kettle is fast. I use the melitta no 6 natural brown filters with it (found them for $2.50 for a package of 40!). Coffee comes out great. I already have a Nespresso but now that both me and hubby work from home, it is more economical to make a pot of coffee in the morning and use the Nespresso for single serving. I thought about getting a gooseneck kettle and Chemex set up but I wanted to try and easy fuss free pour over first and am glad I did! It's so easy and fast to use and clean and makes great tasting coffee. If I have any leftover coffee I pour it into an insulated mug/thermos to keep it hot.

Can't get simpler than this timeless design!! My mom started this trend in our family, and it has really caught on. Converted my brother, and now me!! No descaling, no machine parts that get clogged up, no bulky coffeemaker robbing valuable counter space, and ALWAYS reliable and fantastic hot coffee ready in no time! And I mean hot! Yes, I wish the plastic filter holder was ceramic instead of plastic, but what can you do. Plastic is everywhere. I like that there's a small pack of No. 6 filters included to start you off. Big plus! I ordered the No. 4s, which will also work no problem, but are just shorter. I can once again enjoy a delicious cup of coffee in the mornings. Great purchase!

This coffee maker in my opinion makes the tastiest home brew you can make. It’s easy to use and your coffee runs through fast, I believe much faster than an electric drip machine. You can make how many cups you want in an instant. Great when we travel to whether staying in a hotel or camping, it’s fast, practical and convenient. I will never own an electric one. Love this simple yet practical unit!

The Melitta 10 cup Glass Carafe pour-over Coffee Maker is exactly as pictured and described, is durable, easy to use, and makes greater coffee then ever. It was purchased as previous carafe one used was about 20 years of daily use, and carafe bottom cracked on bottom without leaking, just with hot placing use as well as the plastic cone replaced twice as it tends to stain or melt if not cleaned well or too close to hot pot or stove. The one piece plastic cone, with side handle are both dark brown color, not grey as described, and is very shiny, smooth, and super easy to rinse clean and store as pictured. Also 5 brown cone filters included, which make coffee taste richer better then the usual used white filter. Glad to find another in Amazon stock, shipping in one day, and lower reasonable price. Product hardly unchanged over 20 years. Looked at other types, but they do no compare in price, quality and reviews. It looks very high pro, stores well on stove element, and only two pieces to handle including top lid. So easy and pleasing. However, within one day of clicking the item page, the price kept changing and raising in price from 38.31 up to 40.29 then to 38.70 at purchase time, then price decreased to same, and then increased to same again. Item seems over priced for just blown glass and plastic form. After less activity over two days, price returned to first seen price. Just unnecessary, unappreciated price fluctuations due to look activity. Would consider again when needed. Recommended.
