Engaging, honest, great lessons for SEL
Great book. I have a few others from the collection. They are very engaging for my second graders. I thought it would be ideal for 1st great but was greatly surprised at how much my 2nd graders enjoyed it

It changes little minds…
My son had a history of trauma and neglect from his time before fostercare that made stealing and hoarding not only instinctual, but necessary. From the ages of 5 to 8, I talked myself blue in the face about why taking things that didn’t belong to him was wrong. I hit a point where I thought counseling would be the only solution, and bought this book as a last ditch effort. IT WORKED. We read the book over and over and he loved it. He felt really understood by the book and was able to explain the drive he was feeling to take things. He also finally realized what other people were feeling when he took their stuff. It’s a must read book for kids with sticky fingers. Absolutely life changing.

Very good book
Used this book with students in 2nd and 3rd grade students that were having issues with taking things that didnt belong to them. Together with a discussion about respecting others' personal property this book was very effective. the children enjoyed the story, the rhyme is well done, and the lesson is clear. The author does a good job of making the story humorous and engaging while not hiding from the morals and lessons that the book is discussing. I dont usually like using the word stealing with children, I would much prefer discussing the topic without using that word. I feel that children get immediately defensive when using the word stealing since this is taught from an early age as being very wrong and most children that I have worked with do not always make the connection between what they did (when they take something that isnt theirs) and "stealing." However, this book uses the word stealing and still seems approachable for children so its only a minor concern of mine. This book can be used to target a specific issue that one is having or just as a story that teaches a lesson. Very well done

It’s a Favorite for all who read it!
What a great book! My 4 year old loves it and is his favorite of all the Julia Cook books I’ve read to him it’s a great lesson and gives plenty of “color” to captivate his attention! He now reads it with me from memory because of the way it rhymes we’ve read it many many times and my son never gets sick of it! Great for all ages too.

Awesome Story!
My little sticky fingers loves this book. I thought what a good way to get him to understand not to "borrow" things that are not yours just because you want them...Love the moral an teaching of this story, so easy to read and understand my 1st grader loves it! He's now telling the story of Ricky Sticky Fingers to his friends at school...

My son has never liked reading books
We noticed our 4 year old was sneaking things home in his pocket which didn't belong to him. We had talk after talk, tried punishing him for his behavior, as well as everything else we could think of! Needless to say, if wasn't helping,My son has never liked reading books, he's one who would rather be outside throwing a ball around. Anyway, I was completely blown away that he actually sat down & let me read it to him! He even asked to read it again...it's become a favorite. I cannot believe something this simple solved the issue, but something in this book just "clicked" with him, and we haven't had any trouble since!! I highly recommend!

Awesome book to help a child with their own sticky fingers! I highly recommend this book to a soon to be profession theif!
Bought this for my 9 year old 3rd grade son who had his own sticky fingers! Had him read it daily for several weeks and I think the point got through to him as we have found no more surprises in his room, pants pockets or backpack. Up to this point we had tried almost every method of punishment so he'd hopefully learn his lesson but it seemed not until this book that it stopped. Its been months since our last incident. I highly suggest this book to anyone who has a child with sticky fingers. Seems like a great book for professionals to use too. The book is beautifully illustrated with great pictures. Its a great size too with large pages and larger print to easily read for a younger child.

Julia Cook - Ricky Sticky Fingers
I have now bought about half of Julia Cook's books. Beware that as an American counsellor/writer the book does contain some Americanisms, so best shared with a class, rather than children reading the text directly.

Excellent.
Teaches children the wrong in taking things that do not belong to them, also how they would feel if someone stole from them.

Liked the book, but it fell apart almost instantly. I was hoping to read it to my son more than once
Liked the book, but it fell apart almost instantly. I was hoping to read it to my son more than onceHe is hard on books, but never have pages actually fallen out of the book. It's a shame because i bought it to teach him not to take things, the way I buy Berenstein bear books for their lessons. But none center on stealing. Loved the message. If you buy, take pictures and make apdf. Wish I had.

I recommened this for any one who has kids who have gone through or going through the stealing stage of life this books explains to them that its not ok and what can happen... and by reading this book from time to time you reinforce the fact its not ok to steal and is a constant reminder for them not to do it I love these books very colorful and kid friendly im getting the whole set of these and will be donating them to librarys and other places for other parents to enjoy
