Almost had a fire

I bought this King Kooker thermometer earlier this year to check the temperature of oil while frying.Today I was heating oil to fry schnitzel. I had the thermometer positioned properly with the tip in the oil. The dial read 330°. I started frying the meat and immediately knew something was wrong because the breading started to char almost immediately. After removing the burnt meat the temperature on the dial dropped to 250° and stayed there. Fortunately my wife suggested checking the oil temp with my Kizen meat thermometer. The Kizen thermometer reading was 425°. Please bear in mind that we’ve only used this thermometer two times prior to today. I am so grateful we didn’t have a grease fire. Do not purchase this thermometer.
