Market Wizards, great book
It's not perfect, but it's easily the best book about investing I've come across, well that's my current opinion. I finished it a few days ago. I'm not the most avid reader, when I find a book I read from cover to cover in a short time, it's a relative rarity, but this is one. I marked up the book a lot because I expect to reread it multiple times, I want the lessons to sink in and stick (I trade, stocks exclusively currently).I'm reading New Market Wizards now, and I'm not finding it as compelling as it's predecessor, however it is holding my attention. Both are hardcover, bought in December 2011 at Amazon. The publisher is the same, although they indicate different home cities. What's surprising is the difference in the quality of the printing. The first book is very peculiar in its printing, sometimes it's off, not terribly clear, but still readable. It almost looks like it was desktop published on a cheap printer. It's inconsistent. The two books are amazingly different in the quality of print on the page. However, New Market Wizards' printing is professional and consistent to the point of being mechanical. It's perfect, but I have to say I think I actually prefer the the printing in my hardbound copy of Market Wizards.Jack Schwager is very knowledgeable concerning the world of investing. The questions he asks the interviewees are often sophisticated and complex. I feel that he sometimes fails to keep from injecting some of himself into the discussions, but by and large he's very successful in his role as an interviewer and commentator (he injects his own comments and explanations at times into and after the interviews). There is a glossary of investment terms at the end of the book, so if you read the book, be aware of that from the start. I was not, however I already knew most all of the terms. For the person who's interested in trading any markets I'd say this is required reading.

First and best of the Wizards series; inspiring and very informative
This book is genuinely very enlightening. It profiles big--and not so big--named traders/investors who make both consistent and large profits from various markets (futures, stocks, currencies, and commodities.)Very importantly this book (and the series) demonstrates that money can be made from a wide variety of trading/investing styles: men who are pure fundamentalists that don't even look at charts to pure technicians and many forms in between are interviewed here. The lesson is that money can be made in various ways and that there are no golden rules to profitability, but rather a slew of solid systems with their own unique collection of mechanical and, usually, intuitive rules. The very important subject of investor psychology is a dominent theme throughout the book.At the end of chapters and the end of the book the author sums up the ideas useful to the reader looking to gain market insight; at the end of the book Schwager (the author) looks for similarities between those interviewed.Beyond a greater understanding of how to make money in the markets, the realization that one doesn't have to be an extremely intuitively gifted buy-and-hold fundamentalist, or a scalper on an exchange floor, etc to make big money and that failure is often inherent with gaining experience (many of those interviewed completely blew out in their early days.)This is the first of the Wizards series. If you felt that you got a lot from this book (and you probably will,) then I would recommend also reading "The New Market Wizards" and "Stock Market Wizards" (the last is better then "The New Market Wizards" IMO) as well. It should be mentioned that this series of books is very easy to read and quite fun for its genre. This book is truly worth the 5 stars. Every market participant should read this. Even if you don't trade but cared enough to look at this book's page and check the reviews then you probably should allow yourself to be inspired and enlightened by this book. Do yourself a favor and buy the book.
