Not for a beginner
The book doesn't give meaning got every letters like duolingo does. You gotta memorise the sentence than actually trying to understand it. How's it going is qué tal te va? Que Also means what? So it doesn't give the explanation between those how to use and what's tal, or te or va. I recommend Spanish for dummies for a beginner.

For learning Spanish, this book is very well designed and ideal for beginners. This book along with a good dictionary (I recommend Oxford) can be the best combination for learning Spanish.

Very useful, packed with good information, but it is not a book of conversations.
I very much liked the asides and lifestyle tips, as well as the informal dictionary; by informal, I refer to everyday terms in common usage in English, like poached (for eggs), jumper leads/cables in the US, mugger...but bear in mind this is a British book, so colloquial US terms may not appear. The title Spanish Conversation is misleading, however. This is a phrase book. Conversations are carried out by at least two conversants in the same language. You won't find a real conversation anywhere in the book.I was looking for a book of conversations in Spanish, where BOTH participants are speaking in Spanish and there is an analysis of the conversation given afterwards. This book has value, though, in its thoroughness, including sections on social media, texting and occasional tabs titled "Listen out for"
