Keep the plastic strip
I just received my replacement candles and also received a follow up text from the manufacturer. They recommended to remove the battery to turn the screw on the left side of the remote counterclockwise and follow the directions. Also keep the plastic strip inserted to prevent battery discharge. The candles are in storage now. I did not try turning the screw, but the plastic is easily reinserted. I don’t plan to remove the battery until it discharges.

Great flameless option.
These are really great. They fooled everyone at Christmas that they were real flames. Set and forget. Still learning how long the batteries will last.
