Selected Duets for Saxophone: Volume 2 - Advanced (Rubank Educational Library)

Great Arrangements
These are great duets for the experienced player, I'd say someone in highschool would be able to read this, again assuming they have a lot of experience and can read well.I've always enjoyed Voxman's arrangements of duets, and although it does have some original songs, it also takes themes from popular classical music. It runs the gamut of songs focusing on articulation and phrasing, to meter. I would say this book is a "must have" for those intermediate players who want to get better at ensemble playing and song "perfection". For those of us who do this as a living, it's still a great sight reading book with some good rewarding melodies.

Added are more difficult rhythmic duets and I was disappointed that time signatures like 5/4
The advanced book is a continuation of book one. I was surprised to see that the exercises included a few in five sharps and none over two flats. i would expect to see more exercises in three and four and five flats. All of the musical items mentioned above for book one are included in book two. Added are more difficult rhythmic duets and I was disappointed that time signatures like 5/4, 7/4 and so on were not included. Also I would have expected that near the end of the book the writer would have included a few contemporary duets with added dissonances and changing meters.

This is an excellent book for the advanced student
This is an excellent book for the advanced student. It is a good sequel to Volume I. Volume II does progress from the moderately difficult to the quite difficult after only about 8 exercises. But persistence is rewarded by making the student really work hard to gain proficiency. I enjoy it because it gives my instructor a chance to join in the fun. I do find that I have to go back and repeat earlier duets, to be sure I have the technique.
