Here is a reading comprehension with a lot of value. This workbook and the others from the series are created to help kids practice and master reading comprehension by studying and practicing each standard individually, which is unique to other such workbooks that I have used before. The workbook builds the proficiency at each grade level where a reading comprehension skill builder exists. Lumos 8 Reading Comprehension passages are challenging and appropriate for 8th grade level students.The explanations of the answers are helpful for both teachers, parents and students.But there are numerous errors in the question sections of the reading passages. There are questions that are completely unrelated to the passage!There are other confusing references to " part A " or "this part of the selection" in the questions which do not correspond to the text or paragraphs in the passage. For example: page 28-29-30 "The Laundry" includes a question ( #2) completely unrelated to the passage. Question 4 notes " Part A" - but there is no Part A noted in the passage. The book needs to be re-edited and past purchasers should be given a new book or at the least, a set of the corrected pages.

I bought this to use in my classroom, but I decided against it after flipping through the book. Topics and central ideas are NOT the same thing. A central idea is built around a topic. A central idea must be supportable with ideas in the text. Evidence must actually support the central idea. This was a waste of money.

I am extremely disappointed there isn't more available online. I ordered 4 workbooks for my children (we home school) and they have zero supporting lessons unless you want to pay (a lot) each month for access. The interface of the website is poorly organized and even login for home schooling was quite the undertaking as I had to contact customer service and have a "school" created in their database. These books may be a great support to existing lessons and supported online for public/charter schools, but stay clear from them if you're looking to use without paying a monthly fee for any additional support. The lessons themselves are very small for each subject. I did give 2 stars because they do cover a lot...just not a lot of any one topic.

I haven't gone through this book carefully, but a quick scan shows it to be solidly 6th grade level. It includes thorough answer explanations, which I feel to be unnecessary but may appeal to some parents. In any case, the actual number of practice pages is much fewer than what the book appears to contain because so many pages are devoted to answers.

This book has many errors in it. Both the articles and questions have mistakes. The students found them right away.
