Great, fast rolling for X-Country MTB riding. Hills and braking are not as good as grippy tires.
This 2.35 inch rear tire replaced a 2.6 inch Bontrager XR4 rear tire on a Trek Roscoe 8. This tire makes riding trails in the woods much less fatiguing than the XR4. The trade off is when going up gravel or muddy hills you need to be more disciplined in keeping all your weight on it or it will "scrub out" as you pedal due to the smaller knobs. Also when braking, my front XR4 2.6 inch tire stops great but this tire will start to skid a bit on sandy surfaces. This is all completely expected as a X-country tire with smaller knobs will roll much better but the cost is always some grip and braking. Buy it for a fast rear X-Country tire.

Almost the perfect tire!
This tire came stock on my 2023 Santa Cruz Blur TR. It is comfy and rolls great. I made some of my fastest lap times with it. HOWEVER...be very careful with cornering on anything but clean hardpack. The smallest amount of sand and you'll be sliding all over the place. I recently wiped out badly on a very mild turn and I have not crashed in many years. Caveat Emptor!

Grippy and Light
I'm running these on an ultra light, high end XTR, 2022 Orbea Oiz OMX carbon team racing bike and they work great with Stans sealant, until you run through a patch of goat heads and put about 20 holes in each tire. Mine were midlife on the tread at about 1000 miles, roughly half on dirt the other half on concrete. I love the smooth ride on the smaller tread blocks than found on most other Maxxis tires I've run. Highly recommended, keep a spare set around.

Specialized purgatory to Max Rekon Race for the rear
I went a little too aggressive for my rear tire when I switched over to a mullet set up. The Purgatory offered great traction in loose sand but was not worth the weight and rolling resistance. I quickly switched over to the Maxxis Rekon Race, which feels very much like a specialized fast track tire. It offers good traction for the trails in south Florida, which consist of anything from shell rock to loose send, routes and jumps it rolls easy and it’s nice and light.

Excellent
This is a fast puncture resistant tire for racing on mostly dry surfaces. Wet leaves and mud make the bike an amusement park ride. Unless it rains, I will be using one on the rear at Nationals next month
