Great gift for a tree lover
My husband is a landscape architect and loves trees. I searched "gifts for tree lovers" and this popped up. I was a little hesitant at first but after looking at the photos I realized it had a lot of details. My husband started reading it and is so fascinated by the facts and explanations. So I'd it's definitely a great gift for someone who loves trees.

An unusual and surprisingly satisfying book about....trees
As anyone who has been in love knows, we may all be special, but for each of us there is a special kind of special. Around The World in 80 Trees offers that special kind of special. It can be felt in the love the author, Jonathan Drori, has for his subject and, for those who share his affection for trees, a special kind of special between the reader and fruits of Drori's droll writing.Spread out over 227 beautifully illustrated pages, Drori gives a brief historic and biological overview of each tree -- enough to pique curiosity and interest, but not enough to either incite boredom for those only casually interested in the subject, or provide in-depth detail for those looking for a deeper understanding of dendrology. For the latter, Drori helpfully provides a "Where to go next" reference section at the end, which I found to be an unexpected surprise.A quick comment on style. Anyone familiar with British comedy will recognize that culture's distinctly bemused tone in Drori's writing. From American authors this tone often comes across as forced, but from the delightfully British Drori it adds an element of levity and readability to a subject that might otherwise feel wooden, pun intended.Around The World in 80 Trees is definitely a niche book, and as such I suspect it will have a limited audience. But if you fall within that audience, it is a rare discovery and a uniquely satisfying treat -- a special kind of special.

A gem. Short and sweet, filled with memorable anecdotes.
I bought as a Kindle book, but the illustrations might make the hardback a good display book as well. Drori is a funny writer, and a master of description. You may find yourself trying to come up with a description as vivid as a Drori about that tree you are looking at right now. Good luck.

Fascinating information
Was so excited about this book that I bought an additional copy to send to a friend who's also crazy about trees and is interested in all the info about them. We both love this book and recommend it highly. Lovely graphics too.

Very interesting
Almost every day, we read aloud the description of one or two trees. Some very unusual, fascinating trees. All kinds of interesting information about each tree in just a couple of pages with beautiful sketches. Lovely presentation and great writing. Highly recommended!

Fantastic tree travelogue!
I loved dipping into this book and following the trees around the world. Along the way I found out the origin of some of my favourites and met a whole load of new trees about which I knew next to nothing... As someone who has written a tree trail and teaches children about trees I loved reading about new facts and figures which I will use in my work, especially on the 'exotic' species. It also left me wanting to campaign for the better understanding and use of the properties of some trees which could make a real difference to international issues around insecticides, for example, if it were in the interest of multinational companies to invest in the research and development. It's also a very well written and enjoyable read and completely accessible for a newbie tree lover.I'm going to edit my tree trail now thanks to this fabulous book, thank you.... and if you read to the very end then ''ha, you have caught the bug'' as the author might say.

A super book exploring man's relationship with trees.
This book is perfect for tree nuts and those with a casual interest in natural history. Very well written, beautifully illustrated. It's a book you come away from consistently thinking wow that's interesting. Trees are so important and so often overlooked by the general public this book helps bring them to life

Been waiting for a book like this for a long time
Been waiting for a book like this for a long time. The 80 trees an excellent selection and take you on a (climate risk free!) flight around the continents. So well put together, with cultural and environmental underpinnings expertly woven together. Illustrations really show the essence of the chosen trees, from small details to 'weight and height', which is an unusual skill for an illustrator. Also 'bite size' readings which can easily be enjoyed in the short space of time between opening a book and the advent of sleep.

A visual feast - every page a treat!
This is a joy of a book! Every page is a visual feast with a fascinating narrative about each of the trees. It not only looks great but its really well written with engaging and informative text, historical information and even quirky details. As a non-gardener who has always been pretty uninterested in trees, I was really surprised how quickly I became totally immersed in the book and looked forward to reading about all the different trees from different parts of the world. The illustrations by Lucille Clerc really help and they are stunning. love this book so much, its basically going to be everyone's Christmas present this year!

A very readable, entertaining, thought-provoking book that radiates Jonathan Drori's obvious passion for trees. He is a great story-teller and the illustrations are sublime - an absolute delight and a tactile book to boot, with a lovely paper cover. Also extremely good value for a book of this quality. For anyone who loves nature or just a good tale!
