Rothco Vintage Vietnam Style Boonie Hat

I wanted another hat to use while I worked in the garden and yard and small orchard that I have. We have had nearly a month of 100 or more weather and this hat keeps my head cooler than my wide brim straw hat. It is more breathable covers the ears well, shades the eyes as needed and does not get caught up in the low hanging branches of my fruit trees (or in the confides of the rose garden when weeding). The hat appears sturdy and well made for rough work in my jungle. The vents again keep my head cooler than my large straw hat. My fitted baseball cap size is 7 1/8th and I ordered a 7 1/4 and it fits just perfect. Some complained about the hat been rolled up and stuffed into an envelop when shipped causing creases in the hat/brim. Easy solution...take it out, spray it with some water (don't soak) and iron it out...two minute job. Spritz again with a little more water and repeat of needed. The drawstring/chin strap is sewn in, not looped around the crown and has a small leather adjustment tab...it functions, but a spring loaded plastic "keeper" like some other hats have would be better. There is no inner sweat band which would make a super improvement. All in all I would not have a problem recommending the Rothco Boonie Hat to anyone. Lots of choices in colors...I ordered the vintage Vietnam Tiger Stripes to be different.

Better hat than the cost would indicate. It is an actual mil-spec-hat according to the tags inside. It was too loose when it arrived so I washed it hot and dried it at the hot setting on my drier and it now fits perfectly, not too tight or loose. The washing also made the material more limp and pliable so it's like a comfortable pair of broken in jeans. It's excellent for working around the house since the OD won't show dirt or grass stains and if it gets too grungy I can just throw it in the wash with no fear it'll shrink. I also own some 100% cotton boonie hats but I think this cotton/poly blend is the best of them all. Fits the best and is the most robust.

This hat is comfortable, fits well, and is reasonably priced ($12.50). I wanted to get a replacement when my 20-year-old Tilley hat fell off of my bag (it was night and I had tied it to my shoulder bag as I had done many times before) and got lost. I looked at Tilley's hats online. I know they are good quality but they are really expensive. This Rothco hat is made in China, which I try to avoid (I prefer to buy American if I can), and is not going to win any points for style, but you can through it in your bag and not worry about damaging it. If you lose it, it is not a major investment, etc. It is comfortable and keeps the sun from frying me, so I am pretty happy. The one note I would have for the sellers is to not roll it up the way they did. The brim is still recovering won't go straight out from the main body of the hat (there are waves in it) because it was rolled so tightly for what I imagine was a long time. I know it made it easier to ship, but I have had to work on the brim a bit. It is beginning to relax, but it is still not there yet. Besides that, I am happy with the purchase.

As a current military guy, I naturally love boonie caps and have a bunch. This product is a fun throwback novelty replica of the Vietnam era tiger stripe pattern. BTW, Vietnam Vets, you have my honor, respect, and appreciation! You all certainly had the toughest of fights and didn’t get the welcome back home you deserved. Back to the hat… Quality is great for the price! Though not seemingly “true military specs” the hat is well made, fits true to size, and looks good. The brim is a bit wider than current issue (Mil Spec) boonies, which maybe was how they were back then. I use this one for outdoor work and it makes a great addition to the collection!

Good hat ! Normal hat size is 73/8 so I ordered 71/2. Fits fine. Unfortunately they rolled the hat up with the chin strap and the brim is wrinkled and floppy. Will have to try to iron it out flat. If it came with a stiffer or heavier brim it would get 5 stars.

I have been using Rothco boonies for a few years now. There are more comfortable hats. There are certainly more fashionable hats. I wish I worked in an environment where i could wear a Tilley all day, or for that matter, no hat at all. But I need a hat that will shade me from the sun, protect my face from branches and thorns, soak up my sweat, go through the wash repeatedly, crumple up into a ball and be shoved in a pocket to be there when I need it. This is that hat . . . for the price of a song. It is 100% cotton, which differs from Rothco's standard camo boonie polyester blend. As noted by others, this hat also has a larger brim. I like that it is 100% cotton; it absorbs more sweat. I like that it has a larger brim; it stops more sun. I like that it is not camo. In short, I like this hat best out of the Rothco boonie line. As some point out, the brim is floppy out of the wash. Use the chin strap to hold the sides up. I find after about 30minutes worth of sweat the brim is stiff enough to tuck the chinstrap back under the hat.

It looks great and the 100 percent cotton feels comfortable which is why I chose the vintage. The vintage has the wider brim which I like as well.

Se supone que esos pantalones llegarían hoy 24 de noviembre y no me los entregaron.. se me hace raro porque Amazon siempre entrega antes de tiempo.... Pero en mis últimas compras mis productos me han llegado retrasados.. no sé si Amazon este tenidendo un pésimo desempeño en sus entregas...

Nice little boonie hat. Much like the one I was issued in the 90's but much lighter material so it's great for warm weather. Make sure you measure your noodle before ordering.

Es muy cómodo, la talla viene bien, pidan su número. De mis sombreros es el que más cubre el sol. Ligero y respirable. Además buen precio, ~450. Lo recomiendo 100%

Buena calidad y muy cómodo. Actualmente sirve bien en la temporada de lluvias en CDMX (hace calor y hace mucho sol pero hay chubascos en las tardes).
