definitely not 50x magnification. closer to 5x
I didn't expect a telescope with this thing, and i got it to use with my phone but that whole setup is more awkward than anything. the zoom is certainly not 50x and there is no variation or zoomability (not that the description says there is) other than some small focus adjustments.When using on a phone with the mounting setup (tried iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung S8 Plus, Nexus 6p) its just a small circle of the available through the lens so about 70% of the screen is just black. then in the middle is the "zoomed" in shot you were trying to get, which as stated before is only slightly more clear than using the devices digital zoom.When using it handheld, you don't have as much as a problem with the small area surrounded by black since you can adjust the distance away from your eye more easily, but still, its magnification is nothing to write home about.
