Wow, just wow.
This is a remarkable story. It had a couple of spots where the details were overwhelming but it was still an amazing story. This is an amazing author and since it is now 9 pm I will wait until tomorrow t pick up the next book to read.

Brilliant! Simply Brilliant!
I found the initial part of this book to drag somewhat, but I have learned to never expect anything short of brilliance from this author. I stayed up far too late to see how he would end this adventure, and it was not disappointing at all.I never give more than five stars, unless it is for a true classic.

Excellent Military Science Fiction
I am remiss in reviewing all the books in this series - so far I have read 12 of them and am about to buy the 13th - which will hopefully give you some indication as to how much I like the series. There is at least one follow up series - at least set in the same universe. So, whats it like. Often compared to the Horatio Hornblower saga of C.S. Forester, it basically tells the tale of a navel officer and her exploits as she rises through the ranks of command. You meet others in the various books - some of whom you really like. Some may (And will) die. In some ways it would be good for people in the military to read one or two from this series as Harrington leads by example and encourages her subordinates to think - and does not take credit for what they accomplish. *This is not restricted to her character but to others as well. And you will see the opposite as well - which makes a good and true contrast - and is believable because that is the way it is. (I admit I was not in the Navy but another service - but the example would be the same. Highly recommended for everyone who likes a good story, ones involving military action - or, who likes cats!

Title Gives Away Plot
Military SF The adventures continue in book 7. Can't say too much without spoilers, but the first half outlines the circumstances of the capture, and the next half is the MC's incarceration, along with several officers. Despite the title giving away the story, HH gets beat up further in this entry. The enemy is a combo of the mania of the French Revolution and the extreme rhetoric of "them dirty Commies," since Weber keeps going on about how social programs lead to useless citizens in the welfare state gone amok. While some of the background stuff is useful for painting a broader picture, some of the political prose is beginning to approach camp. After seven books telling us the situation, we get it. Capitalism under benign constutional monarchy = good. Welfare state = evil, and prone to sadistic monsters. The action scene remain good, and characters well drawn. I haven't given up yet.

This is one of the more dramatic volumes of the Harrington series as it covers Harrington's surrender to the Peep Navy and her subsequent incarceration, humiliation, and transport to a prison planet run by the Peep Secret Service. In an interesting twist, the Secret Service broadcasts Harrington's virtual execution on trumped up charges, thus setting off several chapters on the problems her death poses for succession to her titles. There are also long and unnecessary discussions on how her execution is not actually a violation of the international treaties on the treatment of prisoners of war, etc.Meanwhile, having arrived at the prison planet, Harrington starts to foment a revolt and she eventually succeeds in taking over the planet. Here the story becomes slightly fantastic as she insists on taking with her five hundred thousand prisoners. How she does this would be giving away the story. Again, this is a good read, but is marred by verbose and largely inane discussions and dialogues among the top leaders of the warring states. Writing these must have been a very satisfying experience for the author, but they do little for the reader. A good editor would have been useful to avoid repetitions and the occasional reversion to present day profanity and vernacular since so much of the dialogue is among aristocrats from around 4000 A.D.

Snatching Victory from the Jaws of Defeat...At a Price
It had to happen eventually. Honor's luck had to run dry at some point and the Peeps had to find someone competent. These two facts collide horribly with terrible consequences for the grand Dame Honor.Honor and some of her top people get captured in this one. That's bad enough. What makes it worse is that one of the head commissars is in the area when she is captured and has an axe she wants to grind...on Honor's neck. There is virtually nothing she can do about this situation either. That leaves it up to her loyal subordinates to get her out of this one. They do but pay a terrible price in doing so. No one is immune from damage in this one. This book was nice in that it further developed characters on both sides of the war. Honor, while still prominent, takes more of a backseat and lets some of the other shine. We get to see courage, stupidity, sacrifice, venality and, yes, honor. This is a fine book in the series. It is not my favorite but I still had a hard time putting it down.

Starts very very slowly
It is a bit annoying that you need to get about 60% through this book before anything really happens. The set-up is way too long and frankly unnecessary. Thankfully it really gets going after that although it is obviously just part 1 of the story.

Still interesting
The story continues to unfold from the previous books with new issues as the main part of the new book. Some bits less credible than others (in the story line - it is fiction!) but still an enjoyable read. I continue with the series.
