Nice product
One full NE Ohio winter season and this worked like a champ! So much better than others I have had. The fish loved to be near it and we had no issues all season. (It was a very cold winter this year.) I will update if anything changes next season. :)

Works great!
We use this pond heater every winter to keep the ice open for our goldfish. Works great and has never failed. Highly recommend if you need to keep some open ice on the pond in the winter.

Both units were defective
I have had success with this brand before. The most recent unit lasted a couple of seasons. So when it failed I bought another one a month or so ago. I installed it and it worked at first, melting a partial hole in the ice. Then it stopped heating and froze into the ice. I had to melt it out with boiling water. Troubleshooting steps did not fix it. So I returned it for a replacement. The new unit arrived a week or so ago and I installed it. It seemed to work fine. But then I noticed the led light has been on every time I looked at it. Even during a warm spell when all ice in the pond melted. I installed a wattage meter between the outlet and heater plug that has confirmed that power has been used continuously over the past 24 hours. So the thermostat definitely does not work on the replacement unit. In this case, two strikes and you are out. There seems to be a manufacturing quality problem. I have requested a refund and will purchase from another manufacturer in the future.

It works like its supposed to
I always notice in reviews about people saying that the de-icers don't last. I've had a pond for a lot of years now and I've bought many brands and many kinds and many watts and none of them last more than maybe a couple years, I think it's just too hard on them. I've got a feel my fish from many many years and the cost of a de-icer every couple years or 3 is well worth it to me to keep my fish alive. This one does keep the pond open and we had a horrible Winter last year so not surprised that mine quit working this year and I'm buying a new 1, I'm going with the same exact 1. Sticking with what I know works. I love the light, so when I look out, I know it's still working. Nothing worse than finding out the hard way.

Worked like a charm!
When you look at my photo's, these pictures were taken about 3 days apart. The temperature on each day hovered in the high teens to mid-20s with lots of wind!My pond shortly after a snow built up a 6-inch thick layer of ice (Left Side Picture), which my filter (Seen peeking out the top) left me a small port/hole to keep open.I have several fish, which are all fine!Took 3 days to defrost it as a whole, but it worked exactly as it said it would. Highly recommend this overall for similar setups.

Great pond heater!
This is the best pond heater I have ever had. I have a small 100 gallon preformed pond and it has kept it completely thawed despite frigid temperatures. Most other pond heaters I have had only keep a small circle around it thawed. I also like that it has a light on the top so you can tell it’s working. Totally worth the price.

New England pond never froze!
After three years of losing fish from toxic chemicals and lack of oxygen due to major icing I decided it was time to try a different route. My pond is 6X10 and about 2 feet deep so just shy of 1000 gallons. I timed my purchase because we were expecting about a week straight of temperatures below freezing. The pond did freeze over the night after I installed the heater but the water was already at 33 degrees. I was delighted to see a hole around the filter the next day after installing it. I was even more delighted to see the ice continue to retract over the days afterward. Even though my neighbor's pond froze solid my pond never did. I have been able to see my fish all winter to make sure they're doing well. We had 20”; of snow fall last week. Even though the snow quickly covered the pond, this heater actually melted all of the snow in just 24 hours. I was under the impression that this was supposed to keep just a hole in the ice. Maybe it is just strong enough to keep a 6X10 (1000 gallon or less) pond above freezing in a typical southern New England winter. Either way I'm very happy. I hope it lasts!May, 2019 Update:Three years of super performance! I was amazed that my pond never froze in January 2018 when we had over two weeks of temperatures that never broke 32. Nights were typically down to below 0. Want to know a real kicker? I never disconnected my waterfall for the winter of 2017 and 2018! No ice dams. No frozen water whatsoever. And here is a bonus for everyone: leave your heater in your pond right through April. All that awful string algae that would normally grow when the temperatures begin to rise...gone! I had to investigate this more and learned that the heater helps get the temperature of the water high enough to allow the good bacteria to colonize quickly. That means that the algae has nothing to feed on. This spring my water has been crystal clear. I disconnected the heater in early May. I’m buying a second unit as a backup since this thing has been so useful. I’d give it ten stars if I could.
